Hey Gimbal, I was just kidding about the "prayed for $20.00.". But, any way you could make that a 1956 or older $20.00? I could really use that for my collection.

That's actually really sad...

I am in this hobby for the fun and the friendship it brings...regardless of religion or race.......but this constant belittlement is making me think other wise?? I think you are the one that needs to grow up.

I am well educated and was raised in a private school with my father being a docter.....I am 39 years old so that is not a child. I am a father of 4 and Christ is in 'OUR' home and life is well. My hope for you is one day yours will be also.

Your friend through Christ......

Even more evidence of the foolishness of the existentially blind. You willingly embarrass yourself in an Off-Topic thread about religion, then you imagine this embarrassment is a valid reason to leave RC.

Between that and your comment about...

... you've revealed far more about yourself than was wise.

You're a grown man with the uneducated, illogical mind of a child. Good luck with that.

Jon,
You'd better have a thick skin if you are going to talk religion with GF! His over the top bluntness will appear to most to be belittling and demeaning. He is trying to open your eyes... I mean REALLY open your eyes. I have been on the receiving end of Gimbal's not so pleasant retorts. I am a better man today because I took the criticism and studied harder to prove my points. By the time I was done trying, I had come to the conclusion that I was wrong, and that Gimbal was right about me. I was blind. But, now I see...

That doesn't mean that I agree with him about everything. Heck, he still doesn't believe in God. I on the other hand, look at the workings of the universe, and can't help but reach the conclusion that the universe, is indeed "by design", just not the way the Bible or any other religious text tells it (Even science had it wrong for centuries).

Thank you Doug. Few will know how much your expression of that sentiment means on threads like this, nor how much it elevates my respect for you.

or yet, the preachers here and all over the u.s. that preach ethics from the bible like everything in moderation, and not living in excess, and leading by example and then climb into their 100k cars and drive to their mulitmillion dollar home, and don't forget how they licked their chops as the offering plate was passed around the congregation, when not but two blocks away families and children are living in poverty. nothing but hypocresy if you ask me.

You're welcome. The sad fact of life is that there are many more thin skinned people in this world than there are thick skinned.

Ok... How bout' this... The theory of intelligent design makes more sense than the theory of everything was created from nothing.

Based on all I've studied to date, I don't agree -- but I'll concede that's a thing which with present levels of understanding might not yet be possible to know, at least not by those without educations in the prerequisite courses of study.

However I'm confident that IF our species survives a century or two more, even this could be known with the same level of certainty with which those who've never seen our planet from space can still be certain it's round.

Knowledge in the field of cosmology is advancing in leaps & bounds, as are the means of verifying and confirming what leading minds are discovering.

And certainty levels for many are already unshakable.

Now, that makes sense! Until a logical argument is presented to me, in which a theory makes more sense than intelligent design, I cannot accept that theory. Could I be wrong? Of course!

Funny, a finite spec of dust telling the rest of us that an infinte being CAN'T exist in an infinite universe because the spec of dust says so. What will we specs of dust in our arrogance know next. I believe in God, it takes faith, no more than the faith you have in believig that he does not exist.
I have proof also! My life....I knew me without that faith and I know me with, and I see the difference. You say because you have no tangible proof you will not believe, but I say you have the proof is all around you your just not looking. As one once said, "you say seeing is believing", and God says "believing is seeing".

So does believing pigs can fly, yet all the faith a fool can muster will still never make it happen.

It takes no faith whatsoever to make sensible use of sound scientific methods applied across varied pertinent disciplines to arrive at intelligent conclusions.

Placing one's blind faith in book full of absurdly contradictory fables written by self-serving men of questionable motives more than a century after JC died is profoundly foolish -- and there's not an existentially sane man or woman on the planet who would imagine otherwise.

From Wikipedia:

Today, about 2.3% of the world's population "Describes Itself As Atheist".

I would not care to quote that as actual fact.

But, the figure is probably close. Thats a small minority when compared to other counties.

For example: Between 64% and 65% of Japanese describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, or non-believers.

Point being, that when just the USA is considered, and for MY purposes, that 2.3% has opinions that are not valid. Except to themselves of course.

Really, thats all you got?

So does believing that pigs can fly. Doesn't mean they ever will.

Because your limited knowledge and experience doesn't permit you to be open to the possibility you discount it out of hand. That is the definition of arrogance. The very existance of an infinite universe precludes your argument that the possibility of an infinite being existing is possible, because the proof that infinite matter or energy already does.

It takes no faith whatsoever to use the results of sound scientific methods applied across pertinent disciplines to arrive at intelligent conclusions.

You obviously do not understand the scientific method, because you would understand that the statement you just made is against the very nature of science and investigation. Question with an open mind, expect the unexpected, don't decide what the result are before the experiment, let the data form the conclusion. Your statement is not based on any science but personal preference (faith). Your statements are always very broad and sweeping with zero facts....give me the law that states God dose not exist or the disciple?

Faith in fables is foolish, and there's not human on the planet who can prove otherwise.

I don't need to....you are the one making those statements.

I will say this, the Bible makes a statement which I profess sums this up "The fool has said in his heart there is no God". Only man in his arrogance would say that "he" KNOWS all and can determine with his finite experience and knowlegde to proclain anything about the infinite. We as scientist still are finding sub atomic particles and phenomena that pertains to the way matter exist and behaves that change everything we knew only a few years before. As for as Einstein, based on what we know now in Quantum physics he only scratched the surface. His theorys only approximate the universe at best. Even with the current views on string theory will found to be only wild guesses in the years to come. Yet, the theories are based on mathmatics which is ordered, logical,...yes, there is a God like certainty to its operation.

I think GF needs to start his own religion. He's already opened the eyes of one person (1stplace) and turned him into a 'beleiver'.
