How embarrassing for you to admit you indulge in such nonsense -- but it's entertaining to see how the existentially-impaired come unglued. Carry on.

BTW -- how's that lack of education thing workin' out for ya?

Prove it and I'll admit I was wrong, but your proof had best be solid. I have proof to the contrary, and I'll bet you 20 smackers I'm right.

Atheism
can be either the rejection of theism,[1] or the position that deities do not exist.[2] In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities.[3]

The term atheism originated from the Greek ἄθεος (atheos), meaning "without gods", which was derogatively applied to anyone thought to not believe in the accepted gods, or to believe in false gods, no gods, or doctrines that stood in conflict with established religions. With the spread of freethought, skeptical inquiry, and subsequent increase in criticism of religion, application of the term narrowed in scope. The first individuals to self-identify as "atheist" appeared in the 18th century. Today, about 2.3% of the world's population describes itself as atheist, while a further 11.9% is described as nontheist.[4] Between 64% and 65% of Japanese describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, or non-believers,[5][6] and up to 48% in Russia.[5] The percentage of such persons in European Union member states ranges between 6% (Italy) and 85% (Sweden).[5]

Atheism tends towards skepticism regarding supernatural claims, citing a lack of empirical evidence. Common rationales include the problem of evil, the argument from inconsistent revelations, and the argument from nonbelief. Other arguments for atheism range from the philosophical to the social to the historical.

In Western culture, atheists are frequently assumed to be irreligious or unspiritual.[7] However, religious and spiritual belief systems such as forms of Buddhism that do not advocate belief in gods, have also been described as atheistic.[8] Although some atheists tend toward secular philosophies such as humanism,[9] rationalism, and naturalism,[10] there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.[11]

Etymology
In early Ancient Greek, the adjective atheos (ἄθεος, from the privative ἀ- + θεός "god" meant "without god". The word began to indicate more-intentional, active godlessness in the 5th century BCE, acquiring definitions of "severing relations with the gods" or "denying the gods, ungodly" instead of the earlier meaning of ἀσεβής (asebēs) or "impious". Modern translations of classical texts sometimes render atheos as "atheistic". As an abstract noun, there was also ἀθεότης (atheotēs), "atheism". Cicero transliterated the Greek word into the Latin atheos. The term found frequent use in the debate between early Christians and Hellenists, with each side attributing it, in the pejorative sense, to the other.[13]

In English, the term atheism was derived from the French athéisme in about 1587.[14] The term atheist (from Fr. athée), in the sense of "one who denies or disbelieves the existence of God",[15] predates atheism in English, being first attested in about 1571.[16] Atheist as a label of practical godlessness was used at least as early as 1577.[17] Related words emerged later: deist in 1621,[18] theist in 1662;[19] theism in 1678;[20] and deism in 1682.[21] Deism and theism changed meanings slightly around 1700, due to the influence of atheism; deism was originally used as a synonym for today's theism, but came to denote a separate philosophical doctrine.[22]

Karen Armstrong writes that "During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the word 'atheist' was still reserved exclusively for polemic ... The term 'atheist' was an insult. Nobody would have dreamed of calling himself an atheist."[23] Atheism was first used to describe a self-avowed belief in late 18th-century Europe, specifically denoting disbelief in the monotheistic Abrahamic god.[24] In the 20th century, globalization contributed to the expansion of the term to refer to disbelief in all deities, though it remains common in Western society to describe atheism as simply "disbelief in God".[25]

Indeed it will, and I'm fine with that phrase. Accurate and directly to the point.

Do you enjoy embarrassing yourself in public, child? You're doing a fine job.

remember the great crusades, hundreds of thousands of people getting slaughtered fighting over a city inwhich they believed that their respect god had been born in. What do you think the generals of those great armies said before they sent their men out to die "just pray about it guys and have faith, it will be ok. Go murder and kill as many as you can"
What fair, just , forgiving god (if in existence) would allow something like that to go on?
Damn where do I sign up, I want to be part of that!

Most believers will forever be too damn blind (by choice) to understand the subtle brilliance of this outstanding quote posted by flyboy907 -- but it's so flippin' profound it bears repeating:

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts

I didn't realize you were turning this into a pissing match?? I don't believe that calling me a 'Child' is anywhere appropriate in helping your cause or character in any way, form, or fashion. But if you deem it nessacary to do so, I suppose that is part of your beliefs in having no god or higher power?? I'm not actually suprised by this however.........

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.

Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.

Looks as though old Albert did recognize religion.

This is simply the OPINION of one man.........

You can choose to qoute him all you want, however, a real man would come up with HIS OWN Opinion rather then hide behind others......Unless this is the god you worship???

Who's pissing? You're displaying the educational and existential awareness level of a pre-school child. I'm describing you accurately.

Yet intelligent replies from knowledgeable folks will be entirely different for my type than for his. Tolerance for foolishness is what has allowed the insanity of organized religion to become as destructive a force on this planet as it has.

Your type?

You mean egotistical atheist?

Thats directly opposite of egotistical religious zealot.

To me, that means the 2 are the same and opinions of those types have little value.
