Considering the balancing issue with the 6S 620SE, I've more or less decided I'll be putting an RX battery... I'll probably go for a 4.8v, 5100mAH NiMh.

Just before, some considerations: This will make the heli heavier (so a little less agile), but it will also reduce the drain on the LiPo (3 * s9252 servos + Gyro 401/s9254 must pull some current).

So, in the end what happens (appart from the fact my heli will be correctly balanced)? Some options:

- I loose some agility and also get shorter flights (because of the extra weight)?

- I loose some agility but get longer flights (because of less consumption on the LiPo)?

- I increase HS to maintain agility and get equivalent flight time (it levels out)?

- I increase HS to maintain agility and get longer flight time (this would be cool)?

Any ideas about this?

PS: I'm not concerned about reliability and stuff...

I always use seperate battery packs for safety, and it has saved my helis a number of times over the years.

The last example was a few weekends ago, when the negative wire on the motor battery broke loose on my Swift that is installed in the A109CG fuselage. The motor quit of course, but the seperate battery to the radio gear left me with full control, resulting in a rather successful auto. The only damage was a minor bit of fuselage damage on the boom.

It was back flying with just a change of battery.

As for feeling much of an "agility" difference in flight. Unless going to a very heavy RX type battery you may well not notice the difference, as the resultant increase in overall weight of the heli is a very small percentage difference in the overall airborn weight.

Well, for me, the main thing is that I don't feel much/any difference in the performance of the heli, as for now I've had no problems with reliability with the BEC system. However, if it's more reliable, it only makes the change better.

Anyone see any downside to using an RX battery?

Aside from the weight penalty I see more positives going with a seperate RX battery.

1.
You can use a seperate small 1350 mah 3 cell lipo and 5amp bec for the rx for about the same weight as a nicad and you get twice the flight times, " on my nitro this set-up gets 8-10 X 10 minute flights.
with nicad it was 4 flights then recharge.

2.
Safer to use a rx pack for set-up

Thanks for the input, but as for now my local shop didn't have a descent NiMh (I want a 5100mAH 4.8v NiMh, it needs to be heavy to get the balance right) I've leaded the nose of the canopy with about 250 grams of lead. For now I don't feel this has changed power or anything, so I'll definitely get the NiMh ASAP. However, with the lead in the nose, the balance is right and now rolls are much cleaner.
