Since lightly crashing my second N9 this weekend I am beginning to loose interest in the N9.

Main reason is parts pricing. Ya, the N9 is awesome, but the prices seem unfounded.

How can a plastic gear for the tail cost $18? I doubt there is some guy in a garage making these by hand.

My second gripe is the crown gear vs the crown hub cost. I know these things strip out, but $40 for a plastic crown and $30 for a metal hub?

No price drops since 2005?

Looks like I am crossing the tracks to Align.

Sorry, just had to vent.

I'd like to know who we can talk some sense into?

I know for a fact I am not the only one that is displeased with parts pricing.

Maybe in 2005 these were acceptable, but now with more than one major company with costs 25% of what N9 parts cost they need to do something.

I feel your pain. I just traded my N9 for a trex 700. It just got to high to buy parts for and I was scared to ring it out due to cost to fix. I also got tired of having to spend hours setting it up. One day with the new trex 700 and it is ready to take flight.

I really enjoy the set up aspect, the prices I can do without.

Same here as well, the only thing that goes with me to the field is my pair of 700's, the Synergy will soon be up for sale due to price costs...

If the N5 parts are the same, I will look into a different 50 size heli....no doubt about it~

Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

I just got tired of having to spend hours aligning the clutch shaft and then on top of that having to pay the high prices for small stuff. I think it is crazy to spend $40 for a crown gear and $120 for a TT. A normal crash on my 700 is around $200 including blades and they synergy would be $500 easy.

If you want a heli that is cheap to crash, then Align is the answer.

I feel what you guys are saying... but, I just can't let mine go.
It's highly modified so it would probly only be good for parts..
I've had it longer than any other heli i've owned..

That's why there are so many of them!!!

You can buy nice heli's for CHEAP right now... i.e. Stratus, Synergy etc etc but you can't afford to fly them.......They are making nice hanger queens though!!!

Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

It's not just cheap but my 700 flys circles around my synergy. It is lighter, Faster and feels more on the edge. I love the locked in feeling my synergy had though but it was not enough for me to pay the price to keep. I love my 700 and feel it will perform just as good as any synergy. Just my opinion. Not trying to start something just stating my opinion.

My Synergy is highly modded and I fly the piss out of it every flight.

This hobby has changed a lot since Align has come on the scene. It's more of a crash rebuild crash rebuild hobby now. Not that anything is wrong with that.

The Synergy is just not that type of helicopter.

I agree it would be nice to have cheaper prices for the 2 parts that are replaced the most on the Synergy.

I wonder what it would cost to have a injection mold made for the crown gear and tail gears?

Helico-pteron have you priced your crash out yet?

I am a service engineer for Engel machinery. We build injection molding machines and I can tell you to build a mold to make the gears would cost the daylights out of you. It would cost $30,000 to $100,000 just for basics of a mold and then the machine so you would have to sell a ton of them to pay for the equipment. The #'s are rough guesses but it may be more than that. I just installed a machine in TN that makes the reach tooth brush. The molding machine and mold cell was 4 million dollars. They have to sell a ton of tooth brushes to make that up. LOL

I love my Synergy's! Yea, they are a little more expensive to fly, but $200 vs $250 for a crash isn't that big of a difference to me. If it was I'd be flying a 50.

The gear prices are ridiculous. It can be mitigated somewhat if you use the Hyper metal tail gears which ironically are almost the same price as the stock plastic ones. I saw where someone was running one plastic and one metal. I wonder if this type of setup would save the crown gear in a crash.

There is no reason why these gears should be so expensive. The crown gear on the Kasama is less than $20. I remember when the N9 was announced and one of the selling points was cheaper crash costs. Too bad that never happened.

The N9 is a great machine but needs a redesign and susequent price drop to remain competitive. I've never been an Align fan but with the 700 they finally did hit the mark. Replace the clutch and links for $80 and you have a pretty reliable machine with the crash costs close to a 50.

Bkervaski and myself both fly heavily modded N9's. Yes it can be an expensive model to fly but those that are complaining are the pilots who are crashing alot. As another poster mentioned the Synergy is not a crash, rebuild, crash, rebuild at your local funfly heli. It's a model for pilots who want a bit more exclusitivity than the average machine. There comes a great deal more pride ( at least for me) in owning an N9 than a 700. Don't get me wrong I don't like paying for some of the more expensive parts either. If people are crashing almost on a weekly basis or maybe even a monthly basis then they definately need to reconsider owning an N9. Flying and regularily crashing any 90 sized helicopter can be expensive. For those that crash often it can be argued that you may need to spend a considerable more amount of your time on a SIM practicing the low/ down and dirty stuff and save the real life flying for what you are already proficient at. It's a matter of flying smart and being aware of what your strneghts and weaknesses are. I know what moves I can do down low 2-3 feet off the ground and I know what moves or combination of moves I need to do higher. It's one thing I've learned since I've been flying, consistently burning fuel makes you a better pilot and consistently crashing takes away from your time of being able to consisntly burn fuel because you are rebuilding more than you are flying. Crashing is goign to happen from time to time but pilots can reduce it siginificantly by flying and training smarter.

+1 on the moved onto the T700N from the N9.

had mine less than 2 weeks and made up my mind that it was way too much cash and hassle just to go fly.
bought a 700N and had a solid flying heli in 1 day and I'm not afraid to crash it.

and no I didn't crash the N9.

working on a deal to acquire another 700N as we speak in fact.

i went the other way around i had 2 t700n's and all though i liked them i just couldnt keep them together and they never flew as good as my synergy i had awhile back but still flew pretty well enough. between clutches and 5 broken flybar cages and links always wearing out fast making the machine sloppy all the time.

so i went back to a synergy for reliability. i never had one issue before when i had my synergy. fuel and fly and repeat over and over.

now the synergy needs to be put together correctly and it will never let you down. pretty much bullet proof.

everyones just getting to used to aligns pretty much like a jigsaw puzzle and easy to build. which isnt a bad thing at all.

but when someone builds a higher end heli they bash them cause , well they really dont have the skills or right tools to built them properly.

im not bashing align i have owned alot of them and i just built another trex600n le and having fun with it but i will be getting a n5 when it comes out also.

what it all comes down to is what your wallet and flying skills can afford , them make your choice from there.......

Crashing hitting the ground is easy...Hitting the windsock takes skill..!
