I acquired a skyfox set of mechanics and a fuselage, i have finished re painting it and i am now waiting to order the motor..
i am gonna go for the Xeya 4035/3y-400 and the Power Jazz 63V, is this a good combination as i am new to large electric machines especially with multi bladed heads.

12S?

What gear ratio?

The Power Jazz is a "hoss" of an ESC. Lots of reserve.

Beautiful finish on the fuse. The motor/gearing should make it sound like a turbine.

Hi Dr ben

thanks for reply, I am running a 10:1 gear ratio, which is the standard sky fox mechanics with a fenestron tail..

I worked out my head speed will be around 1450/1500 so by running at 85% i will be around 1380/1400 which is the head speed vario recommend for this size machine ( disc is 1500)

Please fell free to correct if my calculations are wrong..

I have to say i thought electric was just a case of buying a big motor and buying an ESC a couple of big batteries and there you go all ready to fly..

It has taken me over 3 weeks to do research on motors, some motors had the correct wattage but not the correct voltage, or vise versa,

I have found it a massive learning curve having to work out my gear ratio and then calcualte the KV to ensure it is not too powerful or weak, then work out if i needed to change the gear ratio,it has certainly opened my eyes to what the guys in here have done in the early years when electric was in its infancy...

Hello Matt

Have a look at the headspeed calulator at Readyheli.com it is Mrmel's and is great.(left colum of home page)

Also get in contact with Joe Howard at East Coast Vario. He can supply they parts and know how for you conversion, no need to reinvent the wheel, several guy's have done this conversion.

Hope this helps

Jason

thanks a lot for the info, much appreciated,

I have sent an email to Joe at East coat, enquiring about that bracket, as it is perfect what i need..

It was only after looking around the various sites that i realised how many people have done this conversion, its great to know i am not alone and there is help available, as you said, saves having to re invent the wheel.

Thanks again

Matt
