I too will be running the Outrage pipe when I get my OS 55HZ next week from my LHS. Once I break the engine in, I will let you know how she performs with the Outrage pipe.

I would think it should run well. Time will tell. My 55HZ kicks butt with an Align 50 pipe, which Bert K recommended for people who didn't want to choke down $165 for the Hatori.

Bert K said you will gain some power with the Hatori SAB55 but he didn't say how much. I haven't tried my Hatori yet, so I can't say.

Got my OS 55HZ today (Friday) and installed it my Velocity 50. As I mentioned earlier, I will be running the Outrage pipe that came with my kit. The Outrage has the same dimensions as the new Hatori SAB-56. I am not sure if the internals are the same, but the Outrage pipe worked great on my YS 50. I know it is larger than the Align pipe and about the same size as the new Redline pipe.

I will start breaking her in this Sunday and report back with my results.

Question

OS 55 v. TT 53
Engines have the same HP rating, OS is heavier, why pay more for the OS? How much better can it be?

Horsepower alone doesn't mean anything. How much torque each motor has, when is it available, and what is the range (or powerband) of the torque are the true indicators of how well an engine will perform.

Unlike TT, OS hasn't had widespread carb issues. I had a 60K 3 needle carb on my last 50 Hyper and it was a beast. The 40K is specifically designed for the 55 to optimize the available power. It is quite a bit bigger than the 60K and will definitely suck in more air than the 40L carb on the 50 Hyper. More air + more fuel + larger displacement = more power, especially where it is needed.

Built my Velocity this weekend and used the OS55
not sure what pipe I'm going to run.

I will say this though.
after seeing the OS55 in Bert's 600N and several other birds including 1 in a Vel 50 at SRC I am sold.

BTW Kazager I'm not sure where you heard that the OS55 is putting out the same HP as the TT53 but that is flat wrong.

I flew the TT53 since release and it is not even in the same league power/torque wise than this new 55.

The 55 is more like a 91 than a 53 it is unboggable and pulls like a freight train.

even with just the Align pipe on it.

the 53 didn't really feel or perform any different than my OS50s it was a solid engine but nothing to write home about.

I'm wondering about how well the Outrage pipe will breath on the 55 as well. anyone that's got some time on it please chime in.

in kazagars defense, OS rated the 55 at 2.1, and TT rates the 53 at 2.1hp. Now rated up and true HP are much different in real life .

Do the OS carb mod and the 53 is unboggable and pulls like a freight train.

Update ive run the os55hz in and started tuning it out seems to be running good on the outrage pipe so fare just wait and see how good it is when fully tuned..what swash setting (tx) is everyone using on the outrage 50 dropped them to 45% and it seem alot better.

Put 5 tanks through my new OS 55HZ w/ Outrage pipe in my Velocity 50 yesterday. As usual, the engine was sloppy rich (2 turns out on high and mid needles per manual) for the first 2 tanks. By the 3rd tank, she really started to get smoother as I went in a little on both high and mid needles. She really began to wake up by tanks 4 and 5. I am still extremely rich (a little less than 1 3/4 turns on high and 5 clicks from 2 turns out on mid) but the power is still amazing for a brand new engine.

By the time I get a good 1-1.5 gallons through her, she will definitely be a beast. The TT 53 is no where near as powerful. We have a fun fly at our field this weekend, so I plan on putting another gallon through the OS 55HZ in the next couple of days.

The Outrage pipe is working extremely well. It has a very good sound. It's not as raspy as an MP pipe. It sounds more like a Hatori. The OS 55HZ will definitely benefit from a high volume muffler. A buddy of mine is running the Redline High Flow pipe on his OS 55HZ in his Vibe 50 and it works very good as well.

Here are a few pics I took w/ my cell phone...

I have tried the Outrage pipe and now i have the Hatori on it and i can honestly tell you there is pretty much "NO" difference in power.

Now i know theres none, i will use my Outrage pipe in my next kit and save the $$ from buying another Hatori to pay for some thing else, more fuel maybe???
