Hello all I have a fury 60 with a jr 770 8700 combo on the bird and can not get the drift to stop. any out there that can help? I can get the heli to do good in rate mode and not really even drift. Then in hold if I give right or left it will stop then one sec later it will drift nose left every time. I even put the gain up high and got tail wag but it still would drift. HELP! The gyro works good for rolls and loops but thats all I will try with it like this.

Turn the gain all the way up.

Adjust the sub trim till the rudder servo stops moving in heading hold mode, go slow, one point at a time, you should probably need less than 10 points of sub trim.

Turn the gain back down and test fly.

Also, excessive vibration and poor mounting can cause gyro drift, for the JR gyros though, try the above step first.

before you start clicking subtrim, recheck your mechanical linkage and remember to bias the center point with the pitch of the tail blades so they're generating a little anti-torque. You might need one more turn of your linkage.

If the servo drifts on the bench, then you need to correct it out with sub trim before you do anything else.

Make sure the gyro gain channel is (or is not) reversed. Trouble shooting heading hold drift while in rate mode is a PITA! :-)

Also, power up the heli Rx with the Tx off. Observe the Gyro, does it initialize? Once the Rx is power up, and you've observed the gyro, turn on the Tx and watch what happens. If the Gyro starts to drift once linked with the Tx, you need to reset your power on default servo position in the Rx..

Finally, you might want to make sure that your rudder trim is common for all flight modes.

If all the normal fixes don't work, have a look here:
http://runryder.com/helicopter/t523727p1/

could be completely unrelated but you never know. I also found out the bearings were on their way out in the Hyper, so that could have been causing vibrations that took their toll on the gyro.

ok lets start over I had a jr 550 gyro on it first and wanted to upgrade when I did I noticed I could not get my servo to center like it did before. I moved to horn every whick way and still could not get it to 90 degree. so I wonder if thats it? Also if I was to go by the manual I have no trim or sub trim per manual. I have used double the tape. and it still drifts just a bit. I will try some of the things you guys have said.

Question is, does it drift on the bench in heading hold?

I think he's saying the heli is drifting in flight, not that the servo is drifting on the bench. But, lets start there. Turn the heli on sitting on the bench (with transmitter on of course) and watch the servo or the tail blades to see if it slowly drifts.

I agree but like you said, I would start with zeroing the drift on the bench if there is any.

BarracudaHockey is right...with the JR 7703D, and the 500T also (maybe other JRs) you MUST stop the drift on the bench with subtrim first. If you don't, you will NEVER get the drift out of it. They DO NOT work like Futaba gyros.

Did you center the tail in rate mode while hovering? The manual don't tell you to but you have to set the tail up in rate mode while in a hover.

Ok, no drift on the bench.

How much gain are you running?
How long is your servo arm?
