I have just picked up a EVO 90 kit and can get a older c-spec nib. at a good price. It's not the engine that I want but the price is good. Has anyone used this setup in the past? I have been told that thay go lean and need the kline mod. I am not a 3-D flyer. I just like things that work good.
Let me know what you think. Thanks 870Heli

Honestly, you ought to go hunting here on RR for a Cline/OMI carb, because the stock PS will indeed try to go lean in the midrange is the high speed is set at all correctly (IE not too rich). I've seen a few lately for GOOD prices. If you'd like to run the engine as it is, I would suggest you change out the cateye for the one from the 60K nonpumped carb. You'll also want to add the midrange trimmer needle valve (which OPENS to make the midrange LEANER). When you run the engine, do not dare let it get too lean for anything longer than the briefest of time. If you do, I guarantee you it will ruin the piston and sleeve in barely a pass or two of the flight line. The engine is utterly intolerant of a lean run due to the tight clearance between the piston and sleeve. Tuned correctly with an OMI carb, they run well. I flew mine for two seasons.

EVO 90 -C-spec

Thanks Dr. Ben That is what I have been told. I have not yet got this engine and maybe I will pass. Is the YS a better way to go? Or are the new OS engines better? 90's are expensive and I would like to get it right.
Thanks for your input --- 870Heli

If you have a choice, skip the C-Spec. Both the OS HZ (NOT SZ) and YS SR will give you fine performance.
