My Posts This: Topic Forum | It was at least a few years ago that a prediction was made by Mr. Kunii in Japan that without the flybar, 3D pilots would gain significant power over a flybar stabilized model. That being said, there was no electronic stabilization yet. Even the orininal V-stabi was several months away from early development.
See my gallery for pictures of the resultant development... a multi-blade rigid spindle head built specifically for 3D!!!
The heli began life as a Caliber 30, then a Trim Corp 50 conversion, then was rebuilt as the Caliber 5 project to give the frames the strength they needed to fly the head.
I flew more that year than I ever have. The heli performed really well despite some horrible eCCPM interactions that I introduced during my modifications. And, at the time, the 9Z could not adequately mix the interactions out and it is well known that it was terribly slow.
Well, I crashed pretty badly in a stupid "normal mode" error. And I never had the energy to get it back together.
That being said, you can do 3D just fine unstabilized. But be prepared to FLY THE HELICOPTER. You have to always be on the sticks.
I am now looking forward to building another helicopter with the Correct 3 Blade rigid head. And I'll fly it without electronic stabi, again
