whats wrong with buying 15% at 15-17 dollars?
Nothing is wrong with that but some people think they have to have 30% or thier helis wont tune right or run to hot. They are the one that wont take the time to learn how to tune properly. I have plenty of power and my helis never run hot even in thier scale fuse's and I only run 15%.

I don't agree with that either. I think planes offer a lot of challenges as well as helis.

People always say how helis are hard to fly and planes are easy.

But they are pretty much just talking about buzzing around. Yes a plane is typically more hands-off stable.

But when you REALLY fly an airplane it is hard. When I say REALLY fly I mean do rolling circles, loops, knife edge, harriers, rolling harriers, hovers, etc. I cannot yet do all of these.

So for me or anyone else to denigrate airplane pilots would be pretty hippocritical.

I'd ask if those who think it's boring can do everything the best plane pilots can do.

I love to fly both.

Well I bet they have just done a few loops and rolls on perhaps a 40 sized trainer. That is nowhere NEAR finding the capability of airplanes.

People say airplanes can't do as much as helis. This is only true to a point and there are things that airplanes do that helis can't. Airplanes can easily do a rolling loop. I've yet to see a heli do that. Helis can easily do a pirouette. I have seen an airplane do that. It was QUITE impressive. No you aren't going to see an airplane do a piroflip. But you also won't see a heli do a harrier roll.

They both are cool and have different flight envelopes. To master either is impressive.

I agree with you. It never ceases to amaze me the closed mindedness of some of the people here or any other site that think helis only are the best. Most of these people who hate planes never flew one never will so they have no clue as to how much fun they can be. It is flying it is radio control it is all good period. If these closed minded self centered people would open thier eyes and stop slamming and arguing with others that are into many sections of the hobby things would be smoother for all in the RC hobby. I like it all planes helis boats cars trucks the list goes on.

Aaron29 your right I would love to see some of these people whom say if you can fly a heli you can fly a plane try this stuff. Heck I would like to see them try and fly a war bird in scale fashion even. 20 bucks say they cant do it lol.

In the next 7yrs

just my observation

Electrics will continue to grow in popularity as prices drop
there is new battery tech in the works
I have a 2.8hp motor in a 550 Swift
the motor and electronics keep getting better and more efficient.

Nitro's are starting to fall behind that's why all the new model engines are coming out
I have a 2 hp engine in a 50 size compared to my electric
but the flight times are no where close to the same yet!

more gassers are also coming out due to high nitro costs.

There are experiments going on with hydrogen fuel cells for heli's.

I would have to say in 5-7 years
Nitro will be the least popular as people want new Tech not old
electrics will get the same flight times as nitro
gassers will be replaced by hydrogen fuel cells
2.4 will be replaced with cell phone technology
and the prices will get to the point where it requires an above average income to fly.

Count me in for loving both planks and helis....
I think a 600 sized gasser will be the shiz, once somebody gets it dialed in right. I would think somebody (OS, etc) would build a purpose made gas engine for this size and get rid of the weedeaters that shake as they do. Fly all month for 7-8 bucks....awesome.

Nope! You guys are soooo sensitive, lol, I have a few of them actually! They are fun "for awhile" but I just find that they are not as challenging, and I guess I am less intrigued to wanting to go past hover, knife edges, rolling circles, etc simply cause abit to much time on a plank seems to mess with how I fly a heli, I guess everyone can't be as universal as Nick Maxwell in that respect . If you like or love em that's cool. Not to be taken offense of, just my thoughts is all, be well. Anyhoooo back on topic, sorry!

im sorry, but 15% dose not yield enough power to do all 3d manuvers. also think about piro manuvers to the right, now you are fighting the torque and you need all the power you can get. you can juggle that pitch all you want but in some manuvers 15 wont cut it no matter the tune.

I think you can do the maneuvers but they have to be scaled way back.

Like JK said in his interview after winning the 3D masters. He has a 60 that will do everything his 90 does just the maneuver isn't as big or fast. If you can piroflip a 60 I guarantee you can reverse piroflip a 90. Yes, the tail is robbing power but it can be done.

It takes collective management.

And this ends my participation in this post hijack...

Align is about to come out with a 90 sized gasser. Century is about to come out with a 50 sized gasser in about a month I hear.
Guys in to Gasser heli's either use a stock Zenoah 231 heli version which is very smooth out of the box. For more power they also use a 26cc motor BUT it should be balanced, ported with a trued crank, worked on by Hanson or Toxic motors who modify them. You can also do that to a 231 to make it even smoother and more power. Vibration issues are not a problem with these motors when setup correctly. And of course 10 bucks a month for fuel = alot of flying.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

you are wrong, 15% will not carry a heli through all 3d manuvers. try a piro tic toc to the right and tell me how it goes, oh wait it wont.

anything can piro flip, im talking about piro tic tocs and other manuvers that put alot of stress on the power plant. im not talking about heli size anyway im talking about nitro content.
