Any ideas on how to add a governor? Would the electronic ignition help some?

a local guy here with a Spectra gasser uses a revmax on his. instead of a magnet on the fan, he has the sensor sitting on the outside of the motor. i guess there is a flywheel or some sort of magneto that spins with the motor (sorry, i cant recall exactly how its setup). but the sensor picks up the magnet built into the motor.

Unlike my bigger Predator GS with the G-231 with a magneto ignition, this smaller one uses the G-20, which has an electronic ignition.

So it may use a standard governor instalation with a magnet in the fan.

Hey Phil... could you explain a little more in depth why a magneto prevents the use of a fan magnet and we normally have to settle for a Statorgator type setup?

Couldn't the electronic ignition provide the pulse to the governor? There must be a signal somewhere in there that synchs the rpm...

Actually, you do not need a statorgator for use with a governor on the magneto ignition G231. You can use the standard sensor to sense the magneto magnet as it turns on the crankshaft. There are a number of people in the gasser forum who have done so with their GV-1's.

I am sure there is a way to wire into an electronic ignition system. But I do not know of anyone who has done so to date.

Jack, with your electronic and computer experience, maybe you can come up with a doggle that would do so.

Do you think Zenoah would share the schematics of their ignition system?

Looking at the G200PU manual, it looks like the prop hub contains a magnet, since the sensor is right against it in the drawings.

I suspect Century may have a magnet(s) installed in the fan hub for this.

Billme, can you comment?

I cant wait to see some video of the Radikal being pushed through its paces.
All this talk about governors means people want to 3D this machine right?
Who is going to post the first 3D video? and pictures of there set up with governor installed

Im thinking about one of these for next spring but, not until I see some video of it flying the way I like to fly

I am sure it will 3D. The question is how much collective & cyclic POP will it have, relative to the lighter and more powerful 50 nitros?

My Predator Gasser flies 3D very well. Does it have the POP of my Predator 90? No way. More like my earlier Predator with the YS60ST..only the gasser has a lot more torque, so bleeding off head speed, in a klutzed maneuver, is less critial with the gasser, because it recovers its rotor speed faster.

When all things are relatively equal, the one with the better power to weight, and power to disc area loading, will always POP better.

I certainly plan to get this smaller gasser, but I certainly will not expect it to be the 3D animal my 50NX is.

Seeing how much extra pop I got with my Raven and 50NX, when I went from te stock head to the more tuneable full metal one, I think, for hotter 3D, I will also change to the metal head on the Radikal when I get it.

Looks like a good winter project for me.

I'm thinking maybe the Century FBL head and a v-stabi would be a winning combination with this gasser...

Now THATS what Im talking about!

That should give it a power boost along with the tuned pipe!

Add some ultra 94 octane gas, it should be a beast!

In my younger days i did alot of hopping up of snowmobiles and dirt bikes IE porting , pipeing and tuneing,so naturally since a gasser i s just a smaller version of these motors makes me wonder how much a spare cynder would cost to do a litle port work experimenting.I was looking through horizen hobbies sight (witch is where i heard they are getting the motor from)and they don't even list the g20 motor just the 23 and 26 but the cylnders for them were cheap enough. so once parts are available for the g20 motor may just have to dig out the old porting tools and see if i still remember all the tricks and secrets.and maybye a tuned pipe, howver being new to gassers not sure where to get theme.

To much power is never enough.
