Hi, I have been flying my Trex 600N for over two years. While I love this heli I am looking for something new I guess. Between the Vibe and the Hirobo SDX has anyone flown the vibe and SDX and can compare contrast the benifits/differences between these two?

Its really not about parts cost or even heli cost. I am about a straight flyer to help my 3d progress. I guess I havent got my Trex 600N dialed in perfectly, but I think there might be better choices out there.

Thanks

Wow your quick, Not a big fan of the outrage, but Ill look it over at the big fun fly scheduled for next weekend.

Outrage support? Parts supply? I think this is the velocity 50?
Well I did see one of these and I was not too impressed. Sorry but it looks like knock off stuff (quick design out the door) and I am not sure how well or how long it will hold up.

A good friend of mine has both the Vibe 50 and SDX. His SDX will be done in a few weeks once the YS56 arrives. I have seen the built kit and it looks VERY light compared to my Vibe 50. It should be a beast.

Anyways, I will ask him to do a little write-up on the 2 once he starts flying the SDX.

Regards,
G

Simmer,

First let me congratulate you on realizing the 600 was holding you back. I came to the same conclusion about a year ago. The 600 can do all the 3D moves for sure. It is quick and has good power to weight. But as you found out, it is not the best tracking heli on the market. You have to make constant corrections to it during almost all maneuvers.

I have both the Vibe and SDX. Both are much better tracking (night and day) than the 600 and can be adjusted to suit your flying style. The Vibe is a bit heavy so the collective will not impress a stick banger when using a 50 engine. The SDX gets by with a 50, but it still could use more power. Both the SDX and Vibe will benefit from the larger engines coming out now like the NovaRossi REX57, OS 55 and YS 56. But with a 50 the SDX is the pick.

I am in the process of putting a REX 57 in my SDX. The Vibe will get the OS 55. The Vibe is a bit beefier in construction (reason it weighs so much). It may work extremely well with the larger engine as it should be able to handle the additional power and still be reliable.

My SDX has been able to take all the punishment a TT Redline 53 and YS 50 could throw at it. So I'm sure it will be OK with the added power as well.

Bottomline, you won't go wrong with either the Vibe or SDX. In the end though I still pick the lighter weight heli - SDX!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Pass on the Velocity 50 for now. The two in our club have been nothing but trouble. They appear to be beta versions. Like a poorly made Align product. They appear too weak for hard 3D. One lasted less than a week before metal parts were breaking all over the heli. They need better quality control or perhaps re-engineering to add safety factor to account for the poor quality parts. It only tracks about as well as the 600 and can't flip and roll as fast as the SDX and Vibe IMO. Why bother with it?

The Synergy N5 is supposed to be out before christmas. You may want to consider it. Matt Botos has confirmed that he has had well over 300 flights now with absolutely no maintenance to the airframe. Todd has made claims that this will probably be one of the most problem free models he's ever seen. Something to think about...

Thanks rexypilot. Well I think thats the bottom line... weight. Both will be heavier but perform better. The New SDX head looks pretty good. Ill have to fly them both and get a feel but you know everyone has a dif setup so its still hard to figure out.

The only people that has the vibes are thoses who dont dail indicate and balance things! The vibe takes a little more patient then others to build but the outcome is worth the time! I have flown the SDX and was not impressed plus im not going to pay 500.00 for plastic

Flown both, back to back even, they don't compare.

The SDX is much smoother and lighter than the V50. The SDX is hands down a better machine both in flight characteristics and quality IMHO.

The SDX better Quality. yea right what planet you came from??It snearly got the identical frame like the Evo wich is nearly 10 years old.The servoframe will still brake in a crash, wich really sucks by the way. And the Hirobo sparepart prices are just overpriced as usual.Just compare what mainshaft , belt and clutch cost. My TT on the vibe is cheaper then that stupid belt.If you say now , yes the QUality! Thats bull the Vibe quality wise is just par or over.I have been flying Hirobo and JR and the Vibe beats them all in smothness and how it hold up on components wearing. It just lasts forever. The only thing is if you build this kit you dont just smash it together, you have to build it from gearmesh over dial indicating etc.So what? Once adjusted it just flies on and on.The engine drope in minutes and the tank is out in less then an minute. Tailcase is aluminium enclosed. No milkjar canopy wich will cost you 40$ and wich is a science to make paint stick on it.The fan design on the vibe is also lightyears ahead compared to the SDX wich still uses the Evo design. Aluminium swash , yes not chaep Align Aluminium this is JR stuff. Ball links you can readjust and wich last forever.
I hope they changed the oneway in the SDX the Evo oneways used to go regularly.

regards Pete

Wow Pete

Not to get in a pissing match here Pete, but we are all entitled to our opinions.

A few points that I think are worth mentioning. How many SDX's are you reading about with the dredded 'hum'?

The servo tray breaks in a crash, well, what doesn't break in a crash?

TT vs Belt - how can you compare the two. In a crash, if you have to replace the belt, its just the belt. If you have to replace a TT, I assure you its NOT just the TT. Its the TT shaft, TT bearing, and probably most if not all the TT gears. Now do the math and compare.

Do you have an SDX? If you did, you would know that the fuel tank pulls out of the frame in seconds. Remove the pipe and you can drop the engine out in minutes by removing 4 bolts and loosening the carb bolts and pivoting the carb.

Price? When you or I can control the cost of what manufacturers set, then we'll talk.

Fan design - really, whats the purpose of a fan, to cool. Does it perform its function adequately, yes. End of story.

SDX Tailcase - Yes, its enclosed, yes its plastic, yes its cheaper and lighter.

Dont get me wrong, the V50 is a fine helicopter, I'm not saying it isn't. Maybe I should have said that both helicopters with regard to Quality are BOTH superior to most.

Keep one thing in mind. With all that Aluminum comes wieght. Maybe this is why the V50 is heavy, and flys heavy.

PS: you said nothing in regards to how the Vibe 'flys' over the SDX, care to comment on that?

I know I'm not alone here but there are alot of flyers that will agree with me. And, this debate ... SDX vs Vibe 50 has been debated over and over again.

Heres a post I remember reading a while back, read Aarons reply, its well written.
