...and then someone sneaks up behind you when you're inverted and shouts, "NORMAL!"

3 years is enough time wasted. Taking a break for a while.

Here's the question that you might want to ask:

Is the radio going to use the new fully channel hopping technology that JR now has, and when Horizon gets their hands on it, will US consumers be able to enjoy the benefits of the same or will they make JR ship the units in DSM2?

I see no reason for JR to change from the rock solid , trouble free DSM2 I have enjoyed for 2+ years now...

My DX-7 is from the first batch and still going strong but I am ready for more advanced programing features and another channel or two

I know having to replace my dozen or so DSM2 RX's would be a deal breaker though..

SORT OF an interesting viewpoint since Paul started with FHSS (as was the original SS patent circa 1941-42)and found DSM/DSM2 more fitting).

The JR FHSS shares exactly the same origin as DSM2 and was used to meet the legal requirements of other (read non USA) markets. If memory serves me correctly its output is very low. This to meet the various legal requirements of other countries/jurisdictions NOT due to any "performance in use" characteristics.

You can count on the USA (and other parts of the world which allow it) as staying DSM2. Incidentally by definition FHSS cannot be considered DSM(pick your number).

JR's home market is limited to 10mW if using DSM2. Hence the next version ie DSMJ which allows 100mW to be used.

God, looks-wise this "thing" is ugly as sin!! Looks like a transformer. Does it transform into a robot when not in use?

Seriously, is this model for those who can't quite afford a 12X (which, by the way, is a very nice looking transmitter), but want something more than a 9X?

the 12X will still remain the top of the range right?

You guys can quit speculating on the frequency hopping. JR Japan radios have to do frequency hopping to meet legal standards in Japan. For the rest of the world the units will be DSM2. This is from John Adams mouth when asked about this back when the 12X came out. Frequency hopping is ONLY to so they can sell units in Japan.

Besides why on God's green earth would you NOT want DSM2??? My DX6 has been bullet proof since day one and I had one of the very first batch my hobby shop got in and I also have a DX7 and X9303 too. It is all I fly.

The only people who don't want DSM is Futaba guys and who cares what they say.

Well, we here in Europe have to see what the latest EN standard relates to when it is published. [ Due 10 Sep 2010 ]

Should DSM2 no longer comply, then the EU versions of JR's 2.4 GHz systems will have to go the DSMJ route. Remember that the only reason DSM2 is allowed is by liberal interpretation of the current standard.

Always interesting to see how defensive people like Norman get under any mention of a system that hops across all the available frequencies. All I said was that you might want to ask how the system will work since it is supposed to be starting from "0" and since, unlike Futaba, JR has two different protocols to cover all the legalities in the countries in which their SS products are sold. I said not ONE word to imply any liability with DSM2, only that the hopping variant will surely have its good points (or are you going to bad mouth a product sold by the same company which makes DSM2??) Oh BTW Norman, I have just as much right to ask a question here as you do to not care what I think, but I'll at least try to maintain professional decorum in a reply rather than answering with an attitude which does nothing to benefit anyone reading this thread.

Ben,
I just simply pointed out that JR Japan's systems is frequency hopping to meet the law there.

I was being defensive as I will freely admit that I like and am quite proud and feel secure flying DSM technology. For you to insinuate that JR users can hope that JR is going to use frequency hopping is a plain and simple attack we need a upgrade to technology on par with what Futaba is doing. Call that whatever you want it is what it is. There is no other way to take that.

I do not go on the Futaba forum here and bash FAST technology or Futaba's new TX when ever they make one, but to get offended that JR guys makes comments praising JR products in a JR forum. Not too odd to me. Besides you ARE a Futaba pilot and have been a long time if memory serves. Do Futaba guys have the right to comment on the JR forum? By all means, but it does always look conspicuous when Futaba reps comment on a new JR product or vice versa.

On the record I like JR Spektrum products and will continue to fly them and greatly like what they currently produce. Do I personally think it is technologically superior? Yes. That is all I have to say.

Let's discuss the radio. This is not personal Ben.

I think we are just waiting till JR informs us in a couple of days. I sure would like an answer from a Horizon person as they have the info those of us want here in the states.

Since it is a new radio period, it could be a year or more before it makes it to US shelves. Literally. Horizon will want changes and that is good to meet the US market, but it sure takes a long time usually. Always has.
