BTS, I got my Turnigy 30C 5000mah 4S batteries today. The 8 awg wires coming out of the battery are on the wide side and wont slide into the frame of the E620 because of the wire. Did you stand your batteries up on the skinny side? Did you worry about them not being centered in the frame when you tightened them down?

Also the HobbyKing catalog says the connector is a 4mm bullet connector. I measured the black wire at the male connector and it is 5.5mm. I'm assuming there catalog is wrong.

Thanks,

JC

I don’t know why they put that cheap wire and connectors (connectors don’t look safe to me) on those batteries. I rewired the batteries with quality Dean’s 12 gauge wire and Great Planes 4mm bullet connectors.

I had a Flightmax battery before and they do have nice 4mm connectors but Turnigy uses some strange wire and connectors. Perhaps that’s why the price is lower.

I mounted the batteries on edge but any way that fits will be ok.

BTS, I removed the 8awg wires and also put on 12awg from Deans. You can remove some of the end covering and solder directly to a PC board. Just be very careful that you dont slip and short(more like weld) out a couple of cells. Now I can lay the batteries flat in my E620.
It will be interesting to see the difference between my E550 6S, 4025-1100 and the E620 8s, 4025-890. I also removed my Arizona Regulator and RX battery, and it saved 168g. Too bad winter is coming!

Pete, Sorry to hear about your ESC problems. No clue what to do there.

I still have 4 more batteries to modify and make my series harness. On another post, I got some good responses on where to buy the shrink wrap for the packs I've modified.

I've only built the E620 frame, wont take long to build the rest. I have all the electronics and motor. Its a balancing act between building and flying the last few good days before winter.

Let us know how your ESC turns out.

Pete, I just got my heat shrink for the batteries. I'll finish those and get started on the heli. Cold weather is putting a big damper on flying. Later, JC

I just set up my ice 100 for basic flying, is it worth updating the firmware?? From memory its 3.16.
Also I was thinking of trying the govenor but have no idea what the best setup is. At the moment im running a 4020 1100kv scorpion on 6s with a 10t pinion untill i can afford a new motor and batteries. Any advice would be good.

thanks
Pete

Your firmware is 2.16. Do not upgrade yet. CC is still in beta testing on the new versions and they have uncovered some problems. It’s best to wait for the next non-beta version to become available before upgrading.

Best motor setup for you would be the 8 Khz PWM rate and a timing of 2 or 3. That’s what I run.
