Thanks Jamie, you should see what I did today. I was testing the SD9 and took it up for a flight. Came down and realized I didn't record a darn thing.

I guess I have to open the LCD screen before recording (I should have RTFM first).

I am going to give those guys that invented CCD a Nobel prize also. I just finished my first video with the SD9. Now I am finally satisfied with the result. I still have a tail twitch because I just put on a different gyro last night and need to tweak it a little. I also get a small amount of roll movement that I will work on the dampening. Otherwise I am happy with the result. I don't need super high quality footage because of my clients. So this will do just fine for me. I have also ordered the HS9 for a backup.

Thank you. I should have bought the SD9 from the beginning. That's ok. At least I have learned a lot.

unfortunately I am also in the SD9 club....

...guys is there something wrong with me or my computer...since I also got a SD9 2 days ago and all I can say is that the video quality is very far from what I expected, I am not a video pro, but I would never show the SD9 output to a customer. It pumps the green on 25p, but that could be resolved with post production, but the worst is that in any mode I have tried the image quality is worst than my very old dv camera (sony Pc 100).

Could that be a fact of viewing the video on my laptop? since it does not have a full hd display?

I like the SD9 so far, but need to get better editing software....maybe a faster computer too. It skips pretty bad on playback. What are you guys editing the files with? Sony Vegas Pro 9? I have Premier Elements and it can't handle it.

So far I am only using iMovie on my Mac. It will deshake with a built in stabilizer. It also slows down the clip and do some rudimentary adjustments like saturation, contrast, color and such.

Pinnacle 14 Studio Collection

Comes with stabilization filter.
I recommend buying the third part plug-in "Mercalli filter" too, which provides really advanced post stabilization.

I am using Final Cut Pro to edit my SD9 footage. Smoothcam works pretty good but I am curious if there is something better. Anyone know of a third party for FCP?

I have also noticed that the SD9 oversaturates colors too, especially green.

Should have read my manual better Seismic, didn't realize that I could shoot at 48FPS if I took it off of 24 cinematic mode. I'm curious as to what my footage would look like at the framerate.

I also read in the manual that if you take it off "auto slow shutter" mode the frame rate will speed up to 60 fps. I don't know if that is correct and I have no way to test it.

Try read the manual and see if you can confirm what I read or am I just dreaming.

Okay, will pull out the laptop when I get to the station and check it out. Jeez, if it does shoot 60 FPS then I have been really limiting the cameras capabilities. Even at 48 FPS the video would have a lot more flow to it.

Just did a quick search on 3rd party plug ins for FCP. There is one that keeps popping up called "Lock and Load". Anyone have experience with it?

I have Mercalli as a plugin for Premier Elements and it works great on smaller flies, but PE doesn't seem to like the full HD...or my computer doesn't like them. I'll have to figure out which it is.

Ok, got that.
The Pinnacle 14 works natively with full size AVCHD files, and so does the Mercalli Expert version (but not Mercalli light!).

Though it does take a lot of computing power to stabilize the HD files.
Good luck!

OK

I ve been running Pinnacle Ultimate V12, it is alittle less memory intensive than V14, If you run any of the software to Work well with AVCHD, You ll need 2ghz of RAM, duo 2.66 or faster with plenty of hardrive and it is best to purchase a 24in AVCHD/1920x1080i monitor, That will make life easier but your billfold alittle lighter, i bought 2 Macs Pros for Direct Film Conversion to .mov, other for Editing and post processing.

With any Final Cut Pro editing system the only additional hardware that you truly need is an External Harddrive. This will allow you to keep your media/project folder on a separate drive from the one running the OS & Final Cut, which will improve both system responsiveness & versatility. (MAC ONLY)

The Final Cut pro is Best but the learning curve is slower, If you want to use the much less expensive Pinnacle, upgrade your windows based system and life will get much easier, most top pro film editors use Final Cut and many get by with a 2500 machine and a EX harddrive, but you could spend as much as 100,000 on one system and the one system can handle even full length movie editing that one person can hamdle! This can be done on the 2500.00 machine or the 100,000 machine unless your using a tape drive ....I advise staying with SD or SDHC cards...

Ap is GOOD, AV is Better ...Getting Paid to Fly is BEST !

For mac users, after testing this plugin for FC, ive ditched the built in smoothcam, this is much faster and better, you also have better controll over the different settings, highly recommended.

Daytona-Thats the one that I was looking at. Havnt had a chance to download the trial or even look at the manual for the SD9 (Seismic).

I'm not really looking for more speed out of smoothcam, just would like a little less of the warping. How does this plug-in do with that?
