I have been using the HDC-TM300 which is a CMOS camera (uses rolling shutter) but it does not seem to be affecting my video. It only becomes apparent if you have a lot of shake.

I am using the Sony CX12. It is a CMOS camera and the image has some "swim" in it. My Trex 600 is perfectly smooth with not a hint of vibration. Unfortunately the video picks up every little movement including collective pitch change.

Ok, Daytonabeach, I just checked B & H and Adorama. Seems like it is not that all CMOS camera are rolling shutter. I am not exactly sure though. Overall most CCD cameras are fairly expensive so they probably are professional quality cameras. However there are a couple of exceptions.

I want to know if there is any CMOS camera that can handle our vibrations.

Thanks

Generally, if you step up to pro cmos cameras (not the one ones they call pro, that fits into to your pockets) you will get rid of the wavy footage, but be prepared to pay 3-5000$ for such camera...

The Pany SD9 is by far the cheapest and the best 3CCD ive found so far, you can shoot in progressive mode as well...

Yes I realized that. Besides they are HEAVY. Close to 2 kg.

Thanks, I just Google that and it seems like a good camera.

Unfortunately the SD9 is now discontinued and is replaced by the SD10 which is a CMOS sensor.

I know, but i also know that there are still some shops with a camera or two still in stock, look around and you might be lucky.
Pany are known to release new models and draw them out again very quickly, this camera has been very popular since its the cheapest 3CCD camera you can get, and Pany doesnt seem to realize that

For those like me still learning about AP here is a good description of the "shutter types" and problems each causes.
With some great examples of how why and results.

>>Does the Sony HXR-MC1 have a rolling shutter?<<

The camera for the Sony MC1 outfit has a CMOS sensor so that is almost guaranteed a rolling shutter because there is no CMOS camera wit a global shutter yet.

>>For those like me still learning about AP here is a good description of the "shutter types" and problems each causes.<<

Thanks, that is a great article for me at this moment.

>>I have a CX-12 currently so let me know what you find out with the SD9.<<

Thanks, fleaBay here I come.

>>this camera has been very popular since its the cheapest 3CCD camera you can get, and Pany doesnt seem to realize that <<

Yeah, the SD10 which I presume is the successor for the SD9 has a CMOS sensor. Seems like the CMOS sensor is used on 99 percent of the high definition consumer camcorders.

I still find a couple of Sony and JVC camcorders with CCD sensor but they are all standard definition. The Panasonic SD9 is the only high definition consumer level camcorder.

So, if I understand it right, the Sony HXR-MC1 has a rolling shutter, so it would be no good? How could I test it on the ground (like in the store, before buying it?)
