hey, best way to break them in is , fly normal , hard as you like for 40% the flight, smooth smack it for a 15% and then back at it hard again for a 15% and the last 10% smooth smack it

have fun

Thanks for the info. When I talked to TP & FP a couple years ago, they both told me on new packs to charge fully hover 1 min, charge hov 2 min, charge hov 3, etc. until you get to 80% discharge then fly easy for a couple more flights. Has this changed??

Signed,
VERY CONCERNED (about taking PERFECT care of my lipo's)

When the V2 came out Charlie told us at IRCHA the method that i just gave, I think they really dont need breakin in unless you are very VERY hard on them like HC or AS. these dudes are bad to the bone!

The biggest problem now is to stop flying before you get the 80% of the pack used. Because of the voltage holding so well on the new 45C packs you don't see any fading of power so you just keep flying

Even with lower C packs if you can notice a substancial lack of power you are discharging your packs too much.

yeh! I know what you mean on that one! back in the day when Charlie came out with batteries for helis! I went to our local phone company and they had a pile of loose lipo cells. I said what the heck! Ill make me a 2S3P for my hornet, First flight I was hovering in the gym during the winter checking out my handy work. 2 min into the flight, the pack seam to dump. no warning, just dump and the heli wouldnt fly. let it sit for 2 min plugged in and scratching my head. I ramped the head back up and notice my power was good again. huh? while trying to scratch my head while flying. 1 1/2 min later, it dumped again. thought about it and also let it sit 2 min and same thing except a shorter flight than the last until it was discharged 5 flights later
This explained what we had back in the day when Charlie said about the break in with 2 5S4P 5300S

I talked to TP yesterday and it looks like it is going to be a month before I can get a hold of a 6S 5000mah. I'm on the list.

even not doing anything would have been better than nothing...

Thanks guys I guess I should have mentioned that I sent in a 25C battery for a warranty replacement and upgraded to the 45C directly from TP.

Note that TP45 (as well as Hyperion) does NOT perform 100% until after 10 cycles or so (during this time, you will actually see IR getting lower and lower for each cycle)

So, for the first time, you can actually see improvement by break-in runs.

Just a reminder, since many forget and judge the pack after 3 cycles.

What do you mean for the first time?? Every lipo I've owned in 3 years of flying e-helis usually hits maximum power after about 10 cycles.

10 breakin cycles done, 2 6min hard 3D flights in...these things are kick azz, they hold the voltage increadibly well. With my Jeti spin 99
turning the head 2000 rpm, I couldn't tell the difference from the first of the flight to the end. The 12Z timmer let me know. This stuff
is just getting soooooo.... excellent. At this rate it won't be long before nitro is a thing of the past!! Still more testing to do though,
I'll keep you all posted...

Ive tested many packs in CBA lab equipment last few years, people has spoken alot of break in runs, but I havent seen a single occurance of it actually making any difference (even FP tech guy said it made no difference last year), that is until now, both Hyperion G3 and TP45C actually got lower IR after each cycle to about cycle 10.

So do you think 10 breakin cycles(i.e. easy on them) is good for the new batts?

Yes, for these I certainly do, 10 wont probably be needed, but 5 runs at low amp draw is what I do, and I dont exceed 50-60% at those first cycles.

(fly around, practice those low amp draw moves anyway)

This is what Hyperion themself recommend for the new G3 as well.

I am pretty sure the lower price is already done and out the all the dealers. My guess is that the dealers are going to sell the products in stock that they purchased at the higher price and once they re-order at the lower 25% price we will see them posting the lower prices on their site.
