Every time I need my skytack at the field, the battery is dead. The reason is because the device never really turns off!

At first, I keep replacing the battery every 2-3 months, but the problem still was that it was not working when i NEEDED it!

After that, I started to unplug the battery after every time I used it, it's really anoying but... it works! You may I've guessed it, last time I forgot, and last saturday the battery was dead (when I needed it). I decided it was enough and did just a slight modification

Just a flag pin, takes a second to remove or put back

The device does turn off, it was probably getting jostled or bumped and would run for a minute before shutting off again. How does your pin work?

Mine also drains while unused. It takes 3-4 months to empty a battery. I've got a pair of Motorola walkie-talkies that do the same thing. Some devices, from either bad design or intentionally (for standby modes), drain nonstop.

That pin switch is a great idea.

The device gets into "sleep" mode. The motor is not turning but part of the pcb is alimented.

Guys at Model Avionics told me the battery should hold months but I've never been lucky.

It works as any pin/flag switch, it is hooked inline with one of the wire and is the equivalent of unpluging the battery... pretty effective.

That's a cool little mod. Could you post some details of the conversion and perhaps a few pics of the inside?

wow, that's a good idea! maybe I'll just put a regular RX switch in there. Anything is better than a dead battery. Something else I've thought about is using an old 3 cell 400 size lipo, don't know if the voltage is too high, maybe a couple of stepdown diodes... more ideas than time.

a small switch could probably fit inside... my pin switch isn't the smallest neither

You will end up draining your LIPO battery, it will probably take longer but I prefer a dead alkalyne than a dead lipo
