Raptor 60-90 conversion prints

For those interested I am posting machining drawings I used to convert my R60 to a prototype electric R60. The bolt pattern in the plate is for a Neu 1915H/1.5Y and the shaft adapter is made for a 6mm shaft. All materials are made of Aluminum. A note of caution: When the shaft adapter is made try to stay concentric as possible and keep run-out to a minimum.

Once I get it back together I will weight with and without batteries.
I am in the process of making battery packs and swapping out gears.

Sorry for late reply on weights. Madgadget
Heli without batteries 9.0 lbs
Heli with batteries 11.1 lbs
I have 12 A123 cells and a HV 85 ESC

I will try to go lighter with the 1915/1Y which has a higher RPM/Volt and would only require 8 A123 cells and ICE 75 ESC. This would shave off .8lbs. The only change I can think of right now would be the 1915/1Y has a 5mm shaft instead of a 6mm. I will give this a try on my other Raptor. It will put me around at the same weight or lighter than the stock gas version. Which is 10.3 lbs fully equipped.

well done

thanks for reply, looks simple and clean. Depending on your flying style should be a lot of fun as well. There have been times I missed my R60/90,,,,you just added another one. regards Mike

That's a brave conversion! What's the power and flight times like on 12S A123's? I'd expect it's a sports set-up.

Complete conversion not done

"Cam" the first conversion gas to electric was a step towards a bigger conversion, but to answer your question. Yes I am running a sport set-up and getting between 7-8mins at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. I have been adjusting pitch and rpm to gain more flight time. There is plenty of power to spare and the heli sounds terrific!

I will post pics when I finish the complete conversion. I have a buddy grinding a new shaft from stainless to step the shaft down from 12mm to 10mm. While he is doing that I have been working on the heli mechanics.

Finished Conversion

Next stop making training ball landing gear. I have not flown a heli without flybar and paddles in a long time.

Nice fuse! I like that one better than the TT Anti-Tank original, it leaves you with more options for paint. I've flown mine (4035-500,CC85HV,95T Main-9T pinion) on 12S A123 and I get about 4.5 minutes at 100% across the board in governor mode. I think a 400kV motor would do a little better. Mine weighs in at 13.8# with batteries.

If you skip me I can't play!

PJRono your bird looks great

PJRono your bird looks great while in flight. I am hoping the complete conversion gets 5-6 mins with the added weight. Motor onboard is 450kv. The conversion uses an old Century 500E Heli body, Century rotor head and tail. I had to make the rotor head dome out of an aluminum knob because I could not find size I wanted online. Not sure how much it weighs.

Next project will probably convert my Raptor 80 to an electric Jet Ranger with a Neu 1915/1Y motor.

Thanks! Headspeed in the second shot is about 1650 on 10S LiPO. I've flown it as low as 1250 but it's really slow. The top view picture was shot during a roll, I like to horse it around a little bit!

Head speed and pitch is something I am trying to workout PJRono

The heli turned out to be 14.6 lbs and I am still trying to get comfortable with head speed and pitch. Have not worked with the 5 blade head in a while.

I like the 5 bladed head! I've thought about it for my MD-500, which one did you use? Also what size blades did you end up running?

Heli Head And Blade size

PJ, I am using the 5 blade head and 4 blade tail from Century Heli. If you look at their web-sight, the head I have is not shown because it is an older version. The blade length is 600mm wood covered with plastic and painted black. Based upon my 3 very short take-offs. I might end up adding another gyro to stabilize the elevator(left to right) motion.
