IMO if you build a scale heli you should know what to expect
by that I mean it takes skill and practice to build a proper machine
if something doesn't look right or meet your build requirements then you should use your judgement and make the necessary choices to meet those demands "I should practice what I preach "

I bought a KIT recently thinking I was getting something more of an ARF, I expected things to be prefitted but dis-assembled

I quickly found out I had to prefit and reassemble some steps a couple of times to make things fit right

Little bugger was worth the effort though

Century has a track record of not having some parts. I had a Predator that could not fly for some time because of the crown gear shortage...

A track record of not having parts???

The only Century heli I have ever had, that had a few waits (and minor ones at that) for parts I had ordered, was for my big Predator. But never for the much more common ones like the Swifts, or Hawk, or Raven or now the 50NX.

By the same token, I have had more parts shortage issues and know of parts shortages issues for most any of the other brands larger helis - MinAir Spectra G & Fury, JR Ergo's and Vibes, Hirobo Evo 90's, Sylphide N9, Rappy 90, to name a few. Yet I would not go into any of their forums thinking they had a "track record" of not having some parts.

I have found, over the years, that all manufacturers have such issues, at times, speially with their larger helis (60/90 and gas).

Heck, I can even remember a whle back, when I could not get a tail boom and a set of blades for a Rappy 30, for over a month. And that is a far more common heli for T/T then the Rappy 90!

I have always wondered how other manufactures can consistantly be out of parts, and it is no big deal. But if Century is briefly out of something, it becomes a "track record".

Our LHS told me that, over the 10 years or so that he has been selling Century products, they have proven to be one of the suppliers that always has the best fill % on their orders.

Wasp I am glad that you like the way that they feel. I am also glad that you will support them.

imnxtc - Not sure what you mean by minor waits but I did not think that 8 months was minor or reasonable. imho

dsl11us - I see the frustration that you are having and I feel your pain. I would not disagree with you on the raptor. This is the only reason that I responded at all.

8 months!!! The longest I have ever waited for a crown gear (I found that if Heli World didn't have it, there were a number of other sources.) was three weeks...and that was many years ago when they were moving factories.

Are you saying that you had that part on B/O from Heli-World for that long, or was it that their site listed it as "out of stock" for that long? Because many times, as others here have stated, I have found their site saying it is out of stock when it isn't.

How long ago was that?

And when it is, I almost always seem to find it from some other shops. What other shops had you tried to get it from also?

I did not even order it from the site. I was at the hobby shop that ordered it and it went on bo and never came off. Is it possible that it was sitting on someones shelf somewhere over the rainbow? Possible but I had already ordered 5 and never thought that they could not perform. I also remember that the torque drives was another pia. I am glad that you had luck but I have not. All of this happened before they changed factory so that was another mess unto itself.

I really wish that it would have been different with me and Century just because they are the under dog and that is who I will usually work with.

I see that some of the shops that I regularly visit like XXX models is now stocking Century stuff now. Might have to try some again....

Thanks
Mike

In terms of finding the online sites stating that parts are sold out. I found out the hard way that you are better off picking up the phone. They many times will have the part. This was true for me on several occasions when dealing with Heli-World.

So did not anyone from the hobby shop follow up on it?

I also remember that the torque drives was another pia.

I have one of the origianal Preditor gassers and have never had an issue with the original C/F units nor with the current stainless steel units. And I do not know of anyone that has had any problems with them. There are 7 Preditors flying locally and all have logged 100's of flights over their lifetime and all use the same torque tube system.

So all of that happened many many years ago. So the parts shortage myth you are talking of may have been way back then.

Note on Ron Lund's site (one of the most respected shops in the US) that he actually states that other top manufacturers could learn from how Century handles parts and problems. So I guess they must be doing something right now.

Yes it was followed up on so many times that we did not care to fly them any more after we got them fixed.

When did I say gasser? Why did they upgrade to the ss/carbon units? This is one of the first things that had to get fixed. Just because you did not have problems does not mean that others did not.

What myth are you talking about. It happened. I spent a bunch of money on a machine that I could not get parts for.

You have a feather in your cap but it is also several yrs old but look at the dates.

imnxtc I will ask now Are you a rep or a sponsored pilot or work for Century?

You are quick to blame everyone but Century/HeliWorld. I am the first to give credit but when I see that someone has problems like I did then I am sympathetic to them. It is also not the consumers responsibility to update websites.
