My Posts This: Topic Forum | OK I got my cherry popped tonight. I pulled my first real auto rotation today. And she lived even.
It was one of those "Oh one more time and we will call it good."
Anyways it has been raining about every day in Ohio and it looked like it stopped so I figured I would go out and burn some. I was zipping around nice and happy in Idle Up 2, I have major cyclic throws in that setting and just trying to get used to them. It was starting to rain a little so I think one more pass and I will call it good (see I told you it was one of those). Well I drop down to Idle Up 1 so the controls are not as touchy and make a last pass.
Well what I have been playing with the last week is inverted hovers, so I start my last pass I notice my motor sounds a little bit off, but hey it is the last pass so who cares. RIGHT? I put her into a hover, flip her over and about 4 secs. into a inverted hover, about 80' up, the motor just bogs down to nothing, I push out of the inverted hover and auto in about 100' away. Did I mention I was night flying also? Talk about pushing your luck. Well I got her flipped and headed down to the ground, she was dropping at about 3' a sec. I bounce it a bit, as soon as I bounce the motor starts to spool up (then I hit THold) and land her from about 2' up.
So short version
Flame out, inverted hover, radio was in +- 11 pitch, at night (pitch black out not even stars for any light) and 100' away.
Not bad for a first try. Who else out there tries their first auto inverted and 100' out?
What caused it, motor was too lean. Not sure why it ran good in Idle up 2. |
