I called ACE Hobby today for another issue and while I had the Customer Service person on the phone I ask him if the E620 would be receiving the new head upgrades that are on the new Titan 50 SE. The CS person told me the E620 was dicontinued and they( ACE) were not bringing it in any longer.

I'm only guessing, but what this means in my mind is TT is going to release a new version of the E620 but by a different name??? Doesn't make sense to discontinue a popular heli other wise???

Dear Peter,

Frankly, we did not discontinue the E620 and E550. However, as the odering quantity is so small, both of the items have not been included in production.

Best regards,
Customer Service

Hello

There has been much talk on the Heli forums about the e raptor 620 and 550 being discontinued, apparently ACE hobbies are saying they are no longer availble, could you please confirm what is going to happen with this heli. I would like to get a clear answer so I can clear this issue up on the Heli forums where it has been discussed.

Kind regards
Peter Metcalfe

Yes I know I have sent another email asking if parts are going to still be available, I think what they are trying to say is that the demand does not warrant them going to the trouble to set up the production lines to make this particular model. Its a pitty really as its a nice solid heli.

For the the good of the current owners could you please confirm if spare parts will still be available in the future? Then I can pass this along to the other heli members in the forum that still fly this heli.

Kind regards

Sounds to me like they have an inventory on hand so they did not have to make a production run. If inventory gets low they will probably make another production run. A lot of stores still have them in stock.

You should have asked them if there will be a future upgrade with a Titan SE head.

Raptor E620

Hello Guys, I see this post has some people puzzled. Just for the record the E620 does have the ability to be upgrade to the Raptor Titan 50 SE head. This is not sold as a kit currently but is available as individual parts. As for the E620 or any other Raptor, if we should not have stock a backorder situation we could easily get more so please don't worry. Parts are available and just like all our Raptor line we continue to support the product up to 5 years after it's initial release. If you should need any parts or just have questions please don't hesitate to call. Again, if you need a ERaptor just call us and we will direct you to one of our many dealers in North America. If a part is not available please contact us direct so that we can better service you.

Best Regards,
Jeff Fassbinder

That is why I stay Raptor and have 9 in the fleet. Great support.

New E550 in the box for a winter project, looking forward to it.

E620 spares

Compared to some other helis I have had over the years,Raptor spares seem to be cheap and plentiful(for now at least)and especially since parts comonality is so high with the 50. If spares support is `only` guarenteed for a period of 5 years from model release ,we will have to acquire any parts that are explicitly E620 within the next two years to ensure continued life of the model beyond 2011.
I am surprised so few of these are to be seen here in the UK as lipo costs are quite low now compared to previously. For me it is a great model for my non-3d aeros eg F3c style.

Raptor E620

Unpopular? It may be that the cost of the whole package was seen as too high, especially given this model is a lot heavier than most and really needs 10s for best overall performance. For example if you run fewer cells the amps can be very high, which can kill packs.
However...as the model is officially discontinued,it should be possible to get a great deal on the kit.In the Uk I have seen the price go down by 30% overnight.
My personal opinion is that you can do proper close in 3d then by all means go for the smaller machines out there but for me doing F3c style, bigger is better.

Unless I'm missing something the E550 and E620 are NOT discontinued.

They reply:

"Frankly, we did not discontinue the E620 and E550. However, as the odering quantity is so small, both of the items have not been included in production.

Thunder Tiger Corp."

Seems to mean they did not do a production run "this time". I have no idea how many production runs they do a year but probably only a few.

I may be wrong, but that's how I took it.

One can only hope you are correct, now batteries are dropping in price i can see the larger helis will draw much more interest and can see more interest being generated in this heli.

On rc-groups.com someone said about the Raptor e620:

"ACE should have the new version on stock by the end of the year. I’m not sure what the name will be or what other changes (other than the head) it will have. I have heard that there is also a 500 size in the works but not sure if it will be available but Christmas or not."

I am getting really confused here

Temporary discontinued ??? or can we hope for a Raptor e620 V2

Too had that they won’t have an E620 with a Titan SE head out soon. I think that would really help the sales of the E620.

I think that a little more advertising would help sales.

When the T600 guys see my flybarless E620 fly they are amazed at how much better the performance and power is compared to the T600. There are a lot of potential customers that are really not aware that Thunder Tiger has a large EP helicopter with eCCPM control system. When most see mine that first assume that it has a Raptor 50 control system so ACE RC has a lot of customer education and advertising to do.

The reason, why most people didn't buy the Raptor e620 was probably the weight.

Just offer the Kit with:

Titan SE CFK Canopy,
flybarless head
and lighter landing gear ------------and I'm sure the sales would go up

Especially in 2010 Lipos will become so much cheaper and therefore bigger electric helicopters will become more affordable.
There will be a lot of flybarless systems available in 2010
Robbe, Curtis Youngblood, Align, and probably even Futaba will offer their own flybarless system.
Hopefully Thunder Tiger will go with the trend.

The advantages of the e620 compared to some other brand helicopters are:

The Center of Gravity is so easily adjustable
Very well protected battery location
And a perfect Motor-location (for perfect air-circulation)

Yes, I think that the motor location is the best feature.
1. Gets lots of cool air and does not heat up other components.
2. Far away from radio so it won’t cause interference.
3. Allows the radio to be placed under the canopy where it’s protected. I sometimes fly in the rain so that’s especially good for me.
4. It’s easier to adjust the gear mesh.
5. It’s high and helps keep the cg closer to the blades making rolls more axial.

The E550/E620 definitely has the best frame layout of any electric on the market.

The problem is that ACE does not advertise these features and almost knows about them. Like I said ACE really needs to step advertising on the E550/E620 and really highlight all the superior features.
