I just ordered a hyperion duo 3 for a buddy of mine and i suggested getting a power supply. He says he has a car battery charger and honestly i am not sure if it can be used as a power supply or not?

I do not have the specs of the charger but he said he can select 2 to 20 amps on the charger.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Dave

I think the reason you can't use a battery charger is how the current is transported (?) to the lipo charger. It has to be smooth whereas a battery charger supply doesn't provide this. I also think it may not produce enough amps?

Apologies for the description and if it's wrong. It's just my understanding of it...

Power or current is not the problem but clean 12v power will be. Car chargers are a no no. Power supplys are pretty cheap or hed be better off using a 12v car battery.

I use a car battery charger (slow charger) hooked to a car battery. I hook the charger to the battery right with the charger. Works fine.

I think that's a questionable practice... but perhaps is safe..

As long as the car battery voltage remains stable while its being charged its not a problem.

Then, your battery act as a huge capacitor that smooth the charger.

I've read many time against this practice though, Schulze are particularly clear in their manual about that.
