I've almost got my Spirit LiOn (all metal with carbon blades) ready for flight and was wondering what head speed to run it at. I need some idea of a ball park setting for long flight times (not all out 3d)

Thanks

I have a twist 37 with a 14t pinion. 3S Kokam 3200

Using a Kontronik Jazz at 50%, I get ~1800 rpm

Pretty mild, but fine for hovering and forward flight

The headspeed must be ballistic at 100%. I recall using using a SkyTach on mine during the winter and at @50% I get 2000rpm with a Twist37, 15T pinion with the Kontronic ESC. I can't recall if the ESC was auto calibrated though (i.e. the model spooled up with 0 degress pitch as per the manual)

At +75% I also get about 2100 rpm.
(Assuminging the throttle is 0 to 100%)

Not sure I want to push it further as this gives very little headroom for the governor to increase power when you pull some pitch.

Anyway, for the type of flying I'm doing now, 1800rpm is just fine, plus I get 12 min flights from my Kokam 3200s

Perhaps my motor is shot then, the head speed is not ballistic. No where near as fast as my trex 450. I`ll have to borrow a tach and see what its doing.....
