Personally I'd set the failsafe according to the location. I mean would you really want the heli to start decending while flying over water?

My failsafe is probably just going to be set to face home and let if circle until the batteries die. So far I haven't launched from the boat as this I haven't had a day when it is a steady platform for the gyros to initialize. Today sitting here on the dock we're moving so much the stewardess is feeling her stomach act up! (Not the greatest marina for shelter from the swells!) Thinking about turning on the zero speed stabilizers!
Trying to come "home" automatically and land on the boat is out of the question as the deck will not be where it was when I took off!
(These boats I'm on are a world onto themselves in regards to handling them with gloves on at all times. I can't take the risk of me damaging the boat/deck by crashing into it! There is no way I could have a nitro onboard with the smoke and fuel residue. The common joke is looking at the interiors on some you understand the reason why the exotic rain forests are disappearing. Scratch the wood and your looking at a thousand dollars to get it repaired properly! )
It's going to be as nooobs says, set by location. On land I'll have it set for face home and landing if it is line of sight to point of launch. If there are obstructions, come back and circle so we can place bets how long it stays up!

Okay, so we all have different needs and different perspectives on what is safe or not.
How about taking advantage of the nice radios most of us have and jusst make different setup programs, and switch between the desired needs for each specific type assignment, one for work over water, once in open landscape, and one for tight areas with many obstructions.
Will you still be choosing just hover then?
Ross, if you program it to stay put over water, how do you expect it to come down again then?

Okay, that aside, what are the most likely situations we can get into a failsafe?
Temp loss of tx signal, ok, no sweat.
Loss of power in tx or rx, what do you do to regain control, and how do you get it down/back again?

Steve, what radio are you using, and how do you program it to enter face home and landing?
Anyone tried the sink rate function yet.

Ros, how did you test the failsafe function you assigned before taking it up?

I have my DJI failsafe set to hover, If over water at least you will have time time to think about something........ or it might just extend your suffering
