IMHO, pitch gauges are really only useful for reference purposes. When it comes down to it, the numeric pitch values you end up with are completely arbitrary.

I always set 0 degrees by eye(sans blades), which is pretty easy on a flybarless head as you usually only have to adjust one pitch rod per blade grip. Both pitch rods, ideally, end up having to be the same exact length. From there, I adjust my collective's range according to how my power system loads up at the extremes and how the machine responds in general. Cyclic pitch is maxed out mechanically and most flybarless systems will allow you to adjust the actual cyclic rate electronically.

I used to use pitch guage and it was the robart and iPhone is neat but realy no need for one . If you have all rods measured same and directions correct at 1/2 stick level swash and grips level to table this should be 0 deg. Then set travels so no binding after putting blades on you can fold back and they should touch tips . This is close enough to test fly and get everything adjusted then make sure you hove and invert climb outs are equal to uprite climbouts. If you have low headspeed your hover will be off that why I say get motor and other stuff setup before focusing on pitch

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

I agree. I built a nice pitch gauge using a Wixey meter, but I've only used it because I was curious what my pitch was.

For actually flying the helicopter, I set the V-bar to give me as much cyclic/collective travel as possible at 100%ATV in my radio so that nothing will bind, and then if I needed to decrease this amount of collective or cyclic (because the helicopter is too fast) I would do so by using the ATV in my radio (but I have never done this). The actual pitches don't end up mattering all that much other than for curiosity's sake.

If both of your pitch links are the same length (using a good calipers), then you should have good blade tracking. Figuring out where 0 degrees pitch is as easy as comparing the bolts through the blade grips to the main shaft.

FBL is so much easier to set up that flybarred.

Don't use atvs in tx once vbar is calibrated using atvs will mess things up use vbar program to lower pitch

I fabricated a flybarless digital pitch gage using a cheap Eflite pitch gage and a Igaging angle cube. I started by taking the eflite gage and tightening at zero. Then glued a thin piece of flat bar to the top of the gage. This allows the magnetic base of the angle cube to attach to the pitch gage. The angle cube can be zeroed out at any angle so the heli doesn't have to be perfectly level. I just zero out on the tail boom and it's ready to go. Works like a charm.

I also set zero by eye, I put a long bolt in the blade bolt hole.

I just downloaded the high quality clinometer from the app store (for $0.99). Freakin awesome and super accurate/repeatable compared to the previous apps.

Anybody need a set of pitch gages? An align 450 gage and a CLASSIC Kalt gage?

This phone is ridiculous.

keepin' it real
