Is there a special pitch guage used for setting up flybarless heads since there is no flybar to reference zero from?

I make sure my bird is level both ways and glued a bubble level to the top of my pitch gauge.

fly bar

I take the head button off and use a long screw with a washer and mount a ruler on the top of the head and that becomes my flybar.

I just use my Vario gauge with the bubble level. The nice thing about flybarless is that you don’t need a flybar lock so it’s a much simpler and easier.

The Vario gauge is not the cheapest but it’s definitely the best. http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/me...ct_Code=VAR10_4

For setup work at home I have a level line drawn on the wall opposite my work table. I use a standard (Align) pitch gage, sight referenced against this line. Crude but it works

I do it kinda like that but with a long 2mm rod instead

Works perfect!

Any references not directly to the heli, levels for instance which reference gravity, aren't as accurate since you don't know for sure if the heli itself is level. Using a straight edge across the head is the most accurate because it works no matter the heli orientation.

I used to have a great one. I took the Robart pitch guage and removed the level and measurement guide. Then I used 3m tape to stick one of the digital pitch guages to it. It worked awesome but like an idiot I sold it when I got rid of my FBL helis earlier this year. Now that I'm back to FBL I'm kicking myself for selling it.

Great tool you made GScott You can have it back for a fee

Here is a picture of that tool. Works well on 500 size heli and bigger.
