I've got a Kyosho Caliber 4 with an OS37 engine. My question is why would the tail be vibrating up and down about 1/4" at about 60% throttle? It is a very high speed vibration. Seems like below this throttle range and above it , the vibration is almost nonexistent. Any help would be appreciated

something is off balance and you are resonating. Is the belt tension correct? any damage on the tail blades or grips? Foreign Object stuck to TR blades or grips? something binding in the tail rotor assy?

Caliber 4 tail vibration

I've checked everything except the tension of the belt. How much should I be able to deflect it? I was thinking about 1/4". I tipped the heli over a few days ago and damaged the main blades. Other than that it looked ok to me. Oh, also bent the flybar shaft but I replaced it too.

i don't know the specs for it, but i would expect something this small and spinning that fast to need to have minimal deflection. I would go with "as tight as possible without making it bind on the pulleys"

The drive chain on my CB400 needs 1-1.5 cm of slack, any more results in slap, any less binds when the swingarm moves. TR belt is about 1/2 or 1/3 length of a MC drive chain, and is not a chain, so i would reckon 0.5ish cm slack?

Caliber 4 tail vibration

I retightened the tail rotor belt this morning and worked on the engine tune. On close inspection of the tailrotor blades I found a small chip and some grass residue. I've thoroughly cleaned the blades and removed the grass residue. Am going to try to rebalance the blades and see what happens.

Tail vibes
Sounds like tail rotor is out of balance. I balance the complete TR assembly using the Dubro true spin balancer. Make sure the blades are extended fully as they are in flite.
You mentioned you tipped the heli over. Check the TR shaft. Its possible it could be bent causing your tail vibes.

You are describing a main rotor head out of balance condition. Either the blades or flybar are out of balance or something is bent causing the head to shake. Anytime you have a tail boom shaking up and down that is a main rotor head issue.
If the tail rotor was the problem it would have a buzzing in the fins. Tail rotors spin much faster and cause buzzing in canopy or fins not up and down shake.
