Well I got one of these in a super deal I could not refuse.

I did have one strange issue with the tail shaft though. I spooled up and all was smooth for a few mins and then all of a sudden the tail started to vibrate. I took a look and the tail shaft was bent...reminded me of my Furion with the non hardend shafts(bent at certain RPMS during flight).

I replaced the tail shaft with a shaft from a TREX 500...this was one heck of chore...I may post details later.

Other than that this is a pretty nice 500 sized heli. The quality and preformance is very good...Im surprised Hirobo isnt pushing this heli harder since the 500 size seems to be a hot item. Id be making it more affordable and possibly packageing it like Align does with their ESP.

I got my Lepton when they first came out and I can't understand why they are not more popular, most hobby shops are dying to sell them at low prices. My setup is about the same as yours but I have been pairing 3s TP packs in the 2070 to 2200 mAh range and getting short flights with very hot batteries afterward, i puffed one today as a matter of fact
I have two questions, is your pack 6s? How does it fit in the stock opening? Today was my first day using the new gov programming in my CC Pheonix 60, it worked fine after I maxed out the gain ans headspeed change rate but still, what rpm are you using in Idle up, I get messages saying the rpm is too high if I set it where I want it on the computer (I am using Castle Link) thanks.

Just FYI, you will expect short flights with a 2A 6S battery. To do what you are trying to accomplish, you'd need 4 of your 3S batteries, ie. two series pair in parallel, or a 6S2P pack at 4A.

And yes, nice vid! I own two Leptons and love 'em!

Edit:
So, I did some poking around and see that MRC actually does say that a 6S 2.xA pack will "work". I just don't see it being enough for the lepton. And the fact that your packs are coming down hot should be addressed. Going on what MRC says about using low amp 6S packs, do you have a smaller pinion on hand to cut amp draw?
(yeah, looking at a lower headspeed, but your batts are hot)

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Hey thanks but a lot of us switched to 5 and 6s packs. 6s is pretty much the new gold standard for 500 class helis because of the Trex popularity. A higher cap 25-30c battery will handle the 3000 HS and 4-5 min flight time I crave without burning up, I just need to find out which ones fit. Yes I am running a 17t pinion and getting the same performance as seen in the video. Thanks

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I fly a 5a 3300mah TP Extreme V2 pack. I get 5 mins of flight time with it amd the packs are warm after a fligt, though the motor is pretty warm after the flight.

Im running a 24 tooth pinion with my setup on a 770kv motor. The HS is pretty good and give me a good balance of flight time and power for 3D. Ill admit its not insaine power like Im used to but its more than enough to have a lot of fun

My HS is 3020 at idle 2, 2900 at idle 1.

These are the settings I use on my ICE
Set RPM
Med Gov gain
Med Timing
16khz switching
Throttle Response = 7
Current Limit = Insensative

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Thank you for the information, I am realy surprised! 5s with a 24 t pinion is similar to 6s on a 17t pinion on the Kora 15-14 then... Maybe I have more power but don't know how to use it! I have very diff settings on my esc too, high gain was bogging bigtime but when I maxed the gain out using custom she held the pm sold. So wierd. I bought a 30c TP 2700 6s today at my LHS and Im psyched to try it, I had yo flip the battery platforms over to fit it in.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Your problem is the Kora. Its not nearly as powerful as the hacker and there are even better options now...i believe Scorpion may have an alternative motor as well.

I actually toasted a Kora a few days ago. All I did was fly it hard and then I noticed a power loss and shortly after, the heli lost all power. I autoed down... The ESC was beeping 4 times and the motor would not restart.

I put in the hacker and I definitally noticed the differnce in power and it actually makes it through the flight

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I checked the headspeed calculator on Readyheli, your setup with 5s, 790kv Kora and 24t pinion would give 3470 rpm at 100%, which it cant, and so your burnt motor. I have the same motor on 6s with a 17t pinion which gives 2950 at 100% on the headspeed calculator, which makes sense. Reayheli has the pinions in heir hard ones line. My Kora is putting out great power, it has tons! Today I flew the 2700 mAh 6s 30c TP pack for 4 min hard and used1500 mah. the motor was 135 deg but the pack was only 110 deg so I'm vey happy. I put back 1500 mAh in the pack so 5 min should be easily doable with plenty in reserve.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Also, the LHS had a 28c 6s Flight Power pack (the gold ones) at around 2700 mAh that also fit the Lepton with a little more room. Like 1 mm. But it was 15$ more so I got the TP which had better specs anyway. I did flip the battery platforms to the bottom of the frame, and I sanded off the raised tabs on the frames below the battery for an extra 2mm.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Remember the CC set RPM mode does not allow you to program in max RPM in Set RPM mode. It has a head room requirement that limits my max HS to 3020.

The Hacker is a bigger motor to begin with, the Kora is a tiny little thing. Even with the Hacker my machine still isnt what Id call powerful but it has more umph than the Kora and gives me a good mix of duration and flight time. Take a look in my gallery to see what Im used to

My 5s setup has a peak current draw of 60 amps and an avg is just above yours.

Your using about 22.5 amps... Following the 80 percent rule youll get flight times in the mid 5.5min range...which isnt bad. Im in the 5min range following the 80 percent rule also.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Thanks, It's all good, my CC gov is set for 2950 or something. I agree the Kora is small, I had a high Kv AXI on before when I was still trying to get 4s to work. It was a lot bigger. But still for me I am happy, the Lepton seems to have more pop than my Trex 600e (Neu) or 600n (YS) although max power feels similar (sustained high load maneuvers). If I ever try another I'd probably try a Scorpion but that's only if I burn this Kora. Thanks again and nice video!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I finaly got a maiden flight on my Lepton. It was awesome with the hacker and lots of power.

Saddly, the pinnion gear spun loose and I lost power and crashed 90 seconds into my flight. Only damages were busted landing struts and a flybar ( from all I can tell at present moment). Hopefully nothing else as all the moving parts were spared with a good "flop" in a muddy trench of soft grass.

So no matter what motor you have, Make sure those grub screws are on GOOD!
