Swash tightening

Has any one tried putting a socket under bearing race, and giving it a tap with a hammer to tighten it up ?
I am about to try this but am waiting to see if any one else has head long term success with it.

im the one who started doing this and reported my positive results.

works great to tighten up the loose ball. do not tighten to much. you just want to take the slop out.

I have another 40 flights on my old swash and its still doing great. it was ready for thr trash before i fixed it.

The problem with my V2 is loose blade grips. The bearings seem to fit rather loosely in the grips (even with new grips). I made new alumimum spacers (about .010" longer) and use Trueblood dampers. That helped to get some of the slop out of the head, but it is not as tight as my V1 used to be.

Just wondering what else has been tried to fix this. I can't see where a V3 head block is going to help this problem. I suppose I could locktite the bearings in the grips, but I hate to do that for obvious reasons. I've also thought about going back to V1 plastic grips. I never had a problem and grips were cheap and easy to replace.

you may have bough bearings from a bad supplier. in 4 different forums yours is the first case with this issue.

to correct your issue we need to now a few more things.

can you move the grips side to side or is all the play up and down in the grips? and is this align parts or clone?

you doing something pretty wrong because my new V1 head is no where near as tight as any of my V2 heads and the V3 is even tighter without any play from dampners moving.

you are right though V2 or 3 will not matter if the bearings are done wrong in the grips

All parts and bearings are from Align. This has been an issue with many V2s. Bearings are loose in the grips. I've seen 'fixes' on forums such as using Trueblood V1 dampers in the V2 head - I tried it, it is a real tight squeeze - too tight. I just think Align's QC on these parts varies quite a bit. If you get tight grips you're in luck, otherwise you have to try something else.

I'm doing a bit of research for a friend. He had a mishap with his SE and was thinking of upgrading to the torque tube. Any issues I might need to know about?
Thanks

Tube vs belt

I have v3 head on a sport and a STOCK SE v2...
As iam reading this thread i feel my experience is backwards to others..

I swear the V3 Head on my v3 sport rolls/flips at least twice as fast as my STOCK SE V2... The v2 seems to take forever to complete a roll but the v3 rolls 3 times in the same amount of time... Either way i love them both equally!!

There is other variables so i am not that surprised to see different results...after all EVERY HELI has a personality and no 2 fly the same!!

As far as the TUBE vs BELT... its a personal choice, i fly belted for now and I haven't seen many issues with my belt (orange one) just the same amount of issues one might have with Torque Tube after hitting the ground... Iam not picky as long as it flies!!

Best bet...FLY till you crash then replace with better parts..better parts NULLIFIES your crash!!

Fly, Fly then Fly some more!!

the TT on a 450 has many benifits even the 500 does really well, you get to the 600 and it doesnt make as much a difference.

on the little helis you will get a more locked in feel and less overall drag. on high headspeed 450's it really helps.

if your not at a higher skill level then keep the belt.

I just crashed my 450 TT today! For the 3rd time. I will attest to the easy rebuilding of the Torque Tube. The only issue I have is that I need a new foam pad for the 401 gyro. It has to be removed each time I remove the forward TT gear housing for gear replacement.
Torque tube gears will be less for giving and break easier than the belt. All in all I think the TT is the way to go for any seasoned flyer. I love it.

Just a note;I am flying the V3 head on my V2. I wanted faster cyclic so I removed the weights from my Gorilla paddles and the heli got pretty quick.

The next step, I went to Curtis Youngblood Stubs! I mean this heli had to be slowed down with the weights. I have never seen a heli flip/roll so fast! I reduced expo and swash aileron and elevator settings to get it back in control. Wow!

If you buy the black torque tube (instead of the silver one), then you never have to rebuild the gears because the TT breaks before the gears do.

I never quite understood that. I stay away from the black torque tubes. On all my TT from align 450,500,600 and 700. I get a second chance when the TT gears strip. You can still land. If the TT breaks inside the heli it will piro. With the 450, what are ya gonna do? Auto it? I'd rather strip the gears. I had a 450v2 crash that cost over $100 when the belt snapped. It piroed and smashed the tail gear box. $35 carbons, shaft, grips. Piro crashes can be bad.

I took the gyro and made a plastic plate the size of the gyro mount. very simular to to a vibration dampner. I use the good tape and put that on the gyro and the plate. then i use the cheap normal 3m double sided sticky tape to stick it to the heli.

Now no matter what i have the good tape on the gyro and only break the cheap stuff when needed.

i havnt messed with 450's in quite some time..but i have a nice super low time 450 Se V2 on the way i got a good deal on..what is the difference between the "sport V3" and the "pro" V3 helicopters..on the align website they looks pretty similar excepet the sport is blue and has a belt driven tail..is that about the only difference? just curious as i would also like to conver to the newer style head block and TT tail but id rather have the blue parts so they match the original V2 colors better...

Reading the post really got me excited ot fly 450's again!

dude..wheres my heli?????ama#902014

well my TT is on the way finaly. To those that want more cyclic speed out of the wider head or claim the wider head is faster. Its all in the headspeed.

i just jumped from a tached 3200rpm to somewhere around 3400 and the difference is night and day on how fast she flips now. if i ran this speed on my V2 it would be way to squirrley as my V1 is all over the sky now as it is.

put allot of fun back into it thats for sure and raised my concentration level.

TT should be here tomorrow and that will free up some power as well.

yosh your asking to much out of one post. just look at aligns site or helidirect and look at the differences.

the main upgrade you want is the $26 V3 head upgrade and then you can go from there.

The black torque tube only breaks when you hit the tail on the ground. I have hundreds of flight on the black torque tubes and never had one break. I have, however, had a belt snap. That is an expensive crash, even if you manage to hit throttle hold to slow the piro a little.
