Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Whipping tail - something mechanical

i've got a very odd problem on my synergy. The tail seems to whip / punctuate piro when piro'ing to the right only, making reverse piro walls of death / reverse chaos impossible. I have eliminated the gyro, tail servo, torque drive, tail and bearings etc by replacement and still no joy. It is also intermittent, once it starts tho it keeps doing it that flight. Its fairly new, only done 4/5 gallons.

One thing I noticed today is that there was a fair bit of clutch liner dust inside the canopy, on the cooling shroud and inside the holes in the clutch bell. This led me to think the clutch bell is slipping on the clutch. However on inspection, there seems plenty of clutch liner left (around 1.25mm).

Has anyone else experienced this? I have read about people using TT clutch liners, maybe i'll just have to try this. If anyone has any suggestions please say, im supposed to be practicing for a competition but im just spending all my time trying to fix this at the mo.

Explain the whip/punctuate

Do you mean it is not constant?

Could be the sprag bearing steel "race/liner" slipping. I would take it out and clean it completely and loctite it.

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

I mean the tail in a right piro will almost stop at points in the piro for a millisecond or so then accelerate round a bit further then nearly stop again and so on all round the piro.

I tried to move the main gear in the wrong direction and it doesn't move. However I will dismantle the main gear tonight and loctitie that bearing in place.

If the main gear is not moving backwards then the sprag is jammed & will most definitely cause that symptom.

sorry i was being stupid, something was jamming the blades in that direction. The sprag is working fine. I've eliminated everything mechanical on the tail.

I've revisited gyro config, reset to factory default and dropped the gain. Its still doing it but it's much better. Im confused tho as that suggests to me its vibration, but why doesnt it do this in any other maneuvere.

If anyone else has had this problem would be great to hear your experiences of it.

Helipad,
As HiroboFreak said, your spag is still locked up. When you move the main gear backwards, the only thing that it drives is the clutch
bell.It does not drive the main rotor shaft.

This may be a bit off the wall, but check the rudder servo gears. You could have something in there causing it to bind in one direction only.

It doesn't take much.

hey guys cheers for the replies. My main gear runs fine backwards and drives the rotor as normal forwards, so i reckon thats fine.

Ive switched out the tail servo from a S9256 to a JR 8717, just to see if it was torque related, but it isn't. I also swapped out the CSM 720 for another one, but it does it also.

I've managed to lessen the problem by running a far lower gain, but thats making certain maneuveres harder to keep looking nice.

Really annoying problem.

Are the thrust bearings installed correctly in the tail grips?

I would swap the boom and entire tail with another one from a friends good flying N9.

Please stand by for faster service!
