Cool, but wich mount are you referring to? Is it costum made? Will you be using the Sdx cluch system or have you foumd a pinion that fits the stock main gear to go direct drive?

The Scorpion is so cheap, and now that I have a Hyperion Duo I might just do the move, and oh yeah with the canadian dollard being so high, all the conditions are on my side as long as my wife does find out!

NEU MOTOR.... Finally!!!!!!!!!

Well, I finally got around to trying out the Neu motors 1415/2Y
motor.....
It has BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
The can is 10mm shorter then the Medusa, but it has every bit as much power from what I could tell ... I was able to "load" the head a little easier then I did with the Medusa, but I still need to fine tune the curves.... Hover point is at 60% and I am using a v throttle of 80% on the high and low.... it does cover some realestate!!!!!!
I am back to running the delren 89t main with the stock 10t pinion and this baby likes to fly....
I am looking into another mount so that the out runners can be used, but if you want an EASY way to go electric.... this motor and the Hirobo Heat Sink mount will get you where you wan to be.....

Stan

Might even be able to get some video of it next time out... I will try...

I went with the Scorpion HK-4025-740. I haven't flown yet but I bought that motor and the 6mm shaft kit. It will mount direct drive to the main gear. I am using the CC ICE 100. on 8s.
Cant wait to try it.

Does the Scorpion 4025-740 fit in the frames and did you use the electric conversion from Hirobo? Could you post a few photos?

I would like to run a Tango 45-07 possible.

I only need one!

Stan,

Log that flight when you get a chance and post the graph. I still can't figure out you you're getting that much kV on 8S and 8.9:1 to run efficiently.

Curious.....why aren't you using set rpm governor mode with the ICE?It pretty well works flawlessly.

Logger Info

Hi Dr Ben,

I should be getting my Eagle Tree back this weekend... had loaned it to a flying buddy....
So, I will see if I can get something on this for you... I am not using the ICE on this one.. I have the HV85....so, I will see what I can get and then get it posted...
I know airshares is running an ICE so he might be able to download some info too... he is running a totally different set up then I am..

SHE FLIES!!!!!!!!!!

Here's my bird...SDX. 8s, Scorpion 4025-740, 10tooth pinion, ICE100, CC pro, BLS451's cyclic, BLS251 GY520 on tail, HK z weave carbon 600mm, stock tail, everything else stock.

Test hovered today on 6s due to battery mount location needs a small mod before flight with 8s. But during the 6s hover testing the SDX was smooth as silk. Blades perfectly in track right out of the bag, Almost hovered hands off, no vibes. Bas A#! seeing this thing hover after flying TREX500's. IF your looking for a conversion THIS IS IT! This thing was made for Electric.
BIG THANKS TO DOORMAN!!!! and DR.BEN for helping me get this in the air.
This bird would have been Nitro had Doorman not PM'd me.

Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is one good looking "STUMP PULLER" you built!!!!

And I am pretty sure that you are going to have a lot of fun with it...

Let us know how you like it once your get it dialed in!!!!

I'm having technical difficulties. Scorpion is coming apart. I also don't like the mesh with this mount. I think its gonna require some dremel work and downtime. I think its putting undue stress on the motor shaft.

Aishares, are you talking about the pinion mesh? I think It's possible to upgrade the motor shaft to a bigger diameter, I'll try to find a link... But then, you'd have to find a new pinion...

Anybody else is having that problem?

Explain please in detail exactly what is going on with the mesh, what you're seeing and even what you're hearing.

5mm motor shaft should be entirely adequate given the top bearing support that model is using.

Stan and I will suggest what we can to help.

5mm

I have a 9t pinion also..... I can sende it out if you think it would help cure the problem???? Let me know....I can always get another!!!!
You probably would not need to chage back to the 5mm since the extension diameter would stay the same(???)

I changed the 5mm shaft out for the 6mm shaft but that doesn't make a difference to the motor as the pinion extension slides over the shaft and then the pinion sits in the clutch bearing.

Here is whats going on. The C clip on the Scorpion is hitting the motor mount plates I believe this is how the motor came apart in the first test hovers. The C clip spins with the motor and I think it hit the motor plate and distorted it. This is reinforced by the damage done to it and it just slightly damaged the top bearing housing.
So First I need to open the hole up in the mount plate so this cant happen again.

The next issue is that there is no way to align the motor. The pinion locks into the upper clutch bearing and thus fixes its position to the main gear. Problem is when you bring the motor up into the pinion and line the motor mount holes up with the plates its causes the shaft to be pulled aft slightly and thus puts more pressure on the main gear, motor shaft, bearing, etc. The mount plates have no fwd aft slot adjustment so I find it difficult if even possible to properly line up the motor with the pinion extension and have everything be perfectly straight and in line.

If I do just mount the motor using the existing holes in the plates the mesh has no backlash at all. From all experience I have with meshing gears I have never seen one this tight. Just imagine a tube that is pointing straight down out of the bearing for the clutch. And if you bring the motor straight up from the bottom of the heli you must insert the shaft into this tube. So You do this and everything is nice and smooth, UNTIL you then try and line the motor up to screw it into the mount plate. In order to do this you must pull the motor aft and thus disturbing the perfect alignment of the shaft, tube, motor.

Sounds like you're gonna have to mod the mount... What about Scorpion's mount?

I've been messing with it some more today. I fixed Thomas C clip issue. Then I put the motor back in to try and align it better so it wont bind. Looks like I can do it but the mount hole on one side will need some dremel work. The other option I'm looking into is using some holes in the mount that look like they may align better but I don't think they intended them to be used as motor mount holes. They have absolutley no adjustment but by eyeball they may be spot on with the holes in the motor.
Fingers crossed.

I'd just open the holes up in the mount a few number drill sizes. If that's not enough, slot them slightly.

The pinion position as defined by the upper bearing block sets the mesh, and the motor should hang from there with its mounting hardware dropping through the holes in the mount without shifting the mesh.

Ben Minor

PS: I had to open up the hole in my Scorpion Eagle 3 mount a little to clear the c-clip as well.

UPDATE

Got the Motor back in with no binding. I started with one screw and the heli upside down. Left the Pinion lose on the shaft so I could check alignment while tightening the motor mount screws. Everything went well up to full tightness and I found that the other hole lined up once tightened. And the best part is Everything looks to be good. C Clip isn't rubbing and motor pinion is meshed really nice. Batteries are in their proper spot and heli is balanced almost perfect CG without the canopy. So with Canopy its going to be just slightly nose down.
I did find that I left 2 frame screws lose on initial hover tests and the nut vibrated off. These were the 2 at the top for the main mast bearing. I do not have any extra nuts so I need to get a new one of these before I can test fly. But once I have that part I can take this SDX to the skies on 8S this time. My ICE will log the data.
