My Posts This: Topic Forum | So I was flying the heck out of my highly modified N9.5 when the unbelievable happened but I'll build up to it. So I'm flying around doing some hard flips, tic-tocs, piro flips, semi funnels, ect... and she's got more power than I could've ever imagined. I'm on my 5 or 6th flight for the morning and the outside temp is absolutely perfect at ~ 75 deg with winds < 5mph. I've leaned the high needle 1 or 2 clicks as well as increasing the TJ rev limiter from 83 to 85% (using TJ as a gov). She's running so strong and I'm able to do full collective tic-tocs (forward and side) for unlimited time frames and I've got her about 50-75 ft up (I'm not confident enough to do them on the deck yet). I'm flying her really fast in reverse with a sudden cyclic change to a reverse flip and going to a punch out when suddenly there was a powerful "POOF" and I watch in horror as the two main blades fly away in opposite directions at 100+ mph. Out of pure habbit, I hit TH and even found myself trying to auto a blade-less heli in. The heli then goes from vertical to horizontal to nose-dn vertical. She then free falls the 50-75ft STRAIGHT down to mother earth. Of course the throttle didn't go to the fail safe 0 and so my buddy ran over to the heli to shut down the screaming OS 91-SZ-p. Damage report. The electric fan battery was burried about 6" in the earth and whenever I tried to pull it out by the wires, she started smoking. The blades are UNSCRATCHED. The frame appears to be solid, the landing gear solid. The boom slightly bent and not sure about the Hyper TT. The main gear and crown gears toast. Main shaft, flybar, and presumably the spindle all bent. All electronics look good except the Froemco reg.
Cause. It's rather easy to see that the stock grips simply both broke at the same time from the amount of power this bird had. If it had been one, then I'd say it was simply the fact that they were plastic; but since BOTH broke at the same time, it has to be a combination of power being greater than designed load. There was NOT a SINGLE link broke (even the ones on the grips are still connected).
After thought. Thank God I wasn't practicing on the deck! It was really funny when I realized I was trying to auto her out of habbit. I'm amazed that the frame appears to be in one piece. The clutch got so hot that once she was lying on the ground, it made a 2nd little explosion.
