Hello all,

The Huntsville Heli Flyers will be hosting a fall "funtest" October 16-18. Mark your calendars!

This will be a very informal contest clinic for those new to contest flying. If you'd like to try out the AMA classes, FAI, or get some pointers on setup please stop by.

I've already heard commitment from a few veteran FAI pilots coming to practice the new schedules. Come get some tips from the experts!

Directions to our field can be found at our website:

www.huntsvilleheliflyers.org

More information to come. Please PM me if you have any questions.

I'll be there!

Glad to see an event after the NATS and IRCHA! We all need to support this event, I hear that the club aims to do a 'real' contest next year.

Since it's an informal event, I suggest we fly some 'informal' rounds... say two on Sat. and one on Sun.? We can all pitch in and 'judge'!

I'll probably leave after work on Thurs. so I can get there at a decent hour on Friday!

Regards,
Cliff ('Pops'

I'm contemplating the theoretical possibility of likely going. It's a fairly reasonable drive, less than Nashville.

I might even have electrons circulating in the Eagle by then.

Hotels

Some hotel information:

Cheap option nearest the field is a Microtel (256)859-6655. Waiting on a quote for a group rate, but individual rooms are $49 for a single, $59 for two beds.

Other options closer to the majority of dining will be on University Drive. You can pick your flavor of hotels along there. Time to the field from University is 20-25 minutes.

Joe,

Camping shouldn't be a problem. We've had a few RVs at the Funfly. Will let you know otherwise. FYI: no water or hook-ups at the field, just a "house of courage."

Erich,

Your best bet is still University Drive NW. I did a quick search; there's a Courtyard, Fairfield, Residence, and Holiday Inn Express located along University Dr. to choose from.

Actually, I just might camp there, too. I imagine the weather is good for tent camping this time of year?

Then, I can terrorize Joe in the middle of the night

I don't want to know about what you two will do overnight when no one is around.....

Erich, the last time we were down there for that event at that time of year, it got cold as a bitch overnight, so prepared for that possibility.

Lest you forget that I worked the Flightline up in Alaska for four winters

I got a great sleepy bag, anyways. Camping out during a hot, or even warm night....uugh. I'm glad to hear it's gonna be cool nights.

Well everyone, I will not be able to attend the funtest in Huntsville.

As some of you know, I'm between jobs at the moment, and cannot justify the fuel expense of a 1400 mile round trip.

I will, however, make the short trip up to Jacksonville for Andy's event there.

While I'm at it, I have to announce that the Tampa contest is seriously in jeopardy at the moment, unless Nob or Rolando can take it over. I may not be in Tampa come March. More to come...

Sorry I'll be missing you guys in Huntsville,

Erich
