Hi,

I've been contemplating one of these for a while now and wondered if they really are as good as they look.

How easy is it to drop the engine out?

They look better than the Outrage but par with the N5.

What to do? Thoughts?

Cheers

I have owned both the X50 & X90 - if you check my gallery you will see.

Great to fly - easy to repair & setup - No upgrades needed out of the box - Cheap for parts - good quality - & CHEAP to BUY.

Where I fly - everyone either has a T-Rex or Rappy - I just wanted to be different and invested in the Xtreme - Glad I did - I let my flying do the talking at my club - no one has any doubts that the Xtreme is as good quality if not better than the other major brands out there.

I have no doubt you wont be dissapointed if you adopted RJX into your fleet .......

Just my 2cents worth.

Cheers

I have 2 x 50's they fly like they are on rails... i would stick with rjx but we lost our USA dealers and now parts have to come from Canada
so when i need a part it take 8 days to get to me and the shipping cost just isn't worth it... so when all the new MIN AIR stuff comes out .. i will make the switch ... Unless we get a new US dealer for RJX

I bought a second-hand X-50 (older version) and love it. The tail is extra long so you can sue longer blades. However, if you are into scale, it won't fit nearly all fuselages due to the extra length of the tail boom.

I can only tell you what I know so far =). I got my RJX a few months ago and I am thinking this weekend might be her first flight. I can give you my impressions up to this point.

First off I have the X50 2003a Carbon black model. So it is a belt drive nitro heli. The instructions come on a disc and are in PDF format. While complete and rather nice in colour, I found the resolution to be lacking so it was hard to pick out certain small parts. They also changed the CCPM standouts and the instructions with my heli didn't have the change. It made for some real frustration.

I would actually recommend the 2003a version over the 2009 version for one reason:

http://www.edmheli.ca/cgi-bin/yabb2...?num=1218751311

At the link above you can find a complete build with photos, including instructions on how to Dail Gage your clutch. It is better than any instruction booklet =).

Other notes was that on my heli I was missing the thumbscrews, but the hobby store gave me a set free of charge. Lastly, the substituded 14mm screws on the heli for where, in some instances, in the manual it calls for 12mm. It really isn't a big deal, but can give a definate moment of confusion. =).

I have also replaced all the ball ends on the heli with Align and TT ball links as I heard there was a problem with some.

All in all I really love this heli. I wouldn't say it doesn't need upgrades right away. One that is a manditory upgrade is the metal tail pinion, the plastic one is crap. The metal tail blade holders are also quite nice, but you don't really need them =). The metal fan has holes pre-drilled for a RPM sensor, which helps. I also got the metal header tank holder but have been warned agaisnt it. Eventually, the aluminum will weaken and break due to vibration. Lastly, I sprung for the carbon tail boom... what can I say, I like the bling! =). Those are pretty minor upgrades and didn't add alot to the cost of the heli at all. There really is almost no plastic on this heli at all and I have to say.. I just LOVE that!

As for dropping the engine.. I don't find it exactly easy.. but I don't have alot to compare it to. The best way, I have found, is to remove the gear and bottom plate and then unscrew the engine from the engine supports. Not hard, but not something you would want to do out on the field...

Of course, you could do what i am doing and go Flybarless! =).

As you are in the UK, I would imagine that you could get an even better price than we can here in Canada, and have better parts support to boot!

Here in NA, You can order parts from RJX Directly, Hi-Flight, or BFCarbon, so really, it isn't that bad of a situation at all. Not to mention, at $667CND the price is certainly right!

I will let you know how the flight goes tomorrow. I am quite nervious! Hopefully I will still have a complete heli when I am done! =P.

Wish me luck!

Hey Wimbledon99,
They are a great flying heli. I love mine. I whould go with the newer 09 version for a couple reasons.

Stock 8mm spindle in the head as the old one's had 6mm

Larger fuel tank

Improved cooling fan shroud- I know the older version had issues of oveheating when I talked to so other pilots and reps.

Slight frame change's

Torque tube option if thats what you like. Mine's T.T. since I bought it new I figured why not.

Extra micro servo mount(carbsmart, etc.) I don't think the older versions had this option. I don't use it but it's their if I decide to try one one day.

Thats the main changes to them. I can't wait to get my other Novarossi 57 and put it in their.

It isn't mine. It is one of the guys from the ERCHA I belive. I am just passing along the info! =)

EDIT: Oh! And yes, the old ones do have the spot for the mixture servo. I was going to go with a Carbsmart, but now that there is a combo governor and mixture controller called a multigov, I think I will end up going for that one.

In any case the positioning of the servo, on the 2003 and it looks the same on the 2009, isn't the best. Makes it pretty much imposible to get at the glow plug without removing the servo, still.. beats having to drill a hole in the frame!

I am also pretty sure that the later models of RJX also shipped with the 8mm spindle.. you would have to confirm that with Frank.. but as I am useing the FBL head it comes with 8mm anyhow =).

I think you would be happy with either machine. I also bought mine cause I didn't want to be flying yet another TRex. =).

happy flying! Let us know if you decide to go with RJX! =).

As I already have 2 50's and only 1 90, I'm thinking that the RJX 90 might be the way to go (Was going to get rid of one of the 50's but have purchased a scale fus for it instead ) Is the 90 as good as the 50?

Go for the X90 then. The x50 is awsome but the X90 is well a 90 super power... It fly's great just like the X50 but more power.

Have opted for the 50 after all Can only find one supplier here in the UK and the 90 spares holding is a tad thin!!

The 50 seems more popular so will make the leap
