My Posts This: Topic Forum | I can only tell you what I know so far =). I got my RJX a few months ago and I am thinking this weekend might be her first flight. I can give you my impressions up to this point.
First off I have the X50 2003a Carbon black model. So it is a belt drive nitro heli. The instructions come on a disc and are in PDF format. While complete and rather nice in colour, I found the resolution to be lacking so it was hard to pick out certain small parts. They also changed the CCPM standouts and the instructions with my heli didn't have the change. It made for some real frustration.
I would actually recommend the 2003a version over the 2009 version for one reason:

At the link above you can find a complete build with photos, including instructions on how to Dail Gage your clutch. It is better than any instruction booklet =).
Other notes was that on my heli I was missing the thumbscrews, but the hobby store gave me a set free of charge. Lastly, the substituded 14mm screws on the heli for where, in some instances, in the manual it calls for 12mm. It really isn't a big deal, but can give a definate moment of confusion. =).
I have also replaced all the ball ends on the heli with Align and TT ball links as I heard there was a problem with some.
All in all I really love this heli. I wouldn't say it doesn't need upgrades right away. One that is a manditory upgrade is the metal tail pinion, the plastic one is crap. The metal tail blade holders are also quite nice, but you don't really need them =). The metal fan has holes pre-drilled for a RPM sensor, which helps. I also got the metal header tank holder but have been warned agaisnt it. Eventually, the aluminum will weaken and break due to vibration. Lastly, I sprung for the carbon tail boom... what can I say, I like the bling! =). Those are pretty minor upgrades and didn't add alot to the cost of the heli at all. There really is almost no plastic on this heli at all and I have to say.. I just LOVE that!
As for dropping the engine.. I don't find it exactly easy.. but I don't have alot to compare it to. The best way, I have found, is to remove the gear and bottom plate and then unscrew the engine from the engine supports. Not hard, but not something you would want to do out on the field...
Of course, you could do what i am doing and go Flybarless! =).
As you are in the UK, I would imagine that you could get an even better price than we can here in Canada, and have better parts support to boot!
Here in NA, You can order parts from RJX Directly, Hi-Flight, or BFCarbon, so really, it isn't that bad of a situation at all. Not to mention, at $667CND the price is certainly right!
I will let you know how the flight goes tomorrow. I am quite nervious! Hopefully I will still have a complete heli when I am done! =P.
Wish me luck!
