Finished the build following the manual to the letter... Spool up for the test flight and the tail is backwards? Can't figure out what is wrong. Any suggestions? Reversed the throw, reversed the gyro, reset the travel limits and it flew fine. Just driving me crazy as it doesn't match the manual. Thanks

If the tail is turning backward, this is simply due to the fact that you've rotated the belt into the wrong direction... check your assembly manual on page 33

Just checked again... Front gear rotating counterclockwise, rear, clockwise. Am I misreading the manual?

On mine it has worked just like into the manual...
Before rotating the belt, please be sure that it is straight and totally free... then do what is mentionned into the assembly manual...

There's nothing else it can be but the way the belt is twisted. I do have a little single LED flexible flashlight that I stick up in the front end of the tail boom so that I can look up in the other end and confirm the belt didn't pick up an extra twist when it went down the boom.

I've never managed to get an extra twist of a belt simple because if I do the teeth rub against each other and you get a notchy feeling as you move the gears. If you need to put the belt back in again I channel it through using a flexible guide wire.

If your belt is reversed then at one end it need to be rotated 180 degrees. One way will give you the notchy feeling, the other way won't and that will be the correct way.

For the rear pulley to turn clockwise you need to view the tail rotor from "behind", if you look at it from the side it is mounted on the pulley as well as the whole tail rotor should turn counter clockwise. The TR blade pointing forward should be on it's way up.

Consider the t/r disk. If the disk is horizontal and viewed from the right side of the model, the blade closest to the nose of the model should be advancing into the downwash from the mainrotor. The t/r disk should turn counterclockwise when viewed from the right side of the model.

Now, consider the belt coming off the front pulley before you twist it. The left side leg of the loop (when viewed from overhead with the model's nose facing AWAY from you) should be flipped 1/4 turn clockwise so that the left loop overlays the right leg of the loop. The quarter twist in the manner assures the t/r will rotate CCW when the mainrotor turns CW. Note that in the book the arrow direction showing the pulley as turning CW is as viewed from the BACKSIDE of the pulley/LEFT side of the model.

Of course, as just noted, make sure the relationship pitch the pitch slider and the balls on the pitch arms of the t/r blade grips is correct. When the t/r servo draws the pushrod towards the nose of the model, the pitch in the t/r blades should increase towards the direction of the tail boom.

Dale,

As I understand it, the manual was written by someone who flies the tail, not the canopy. Hence the misleading info in the tranny pictures.
