HIROBO Turbulence - SDX - Freya - Sceadu

For those flying the SDX, how many of you are still running the stock landing gear? What I really want to know is, for those of you who are not, what are you running?

I've about had enough of the junk stock setup. Not only are the gear too flimsy (mine are sagging badly in the rear), but those hokey black rubber dampeners are bleeding a brown "goo" the looks nasty. Furthermore, if you damage both the skids and the dampeners in a crash, the replacement cost is about $40 - way too much for that cheesy setup. For $40, you ought to get something nice.

I tried running them without the black dampeners, but the heli sat so low I was always worried about the tail being in the ground too much.

Recommendations?

Thanks,
Todd

I'm still running the stock gear.

This helps:
Set pitch to -4 in normal (when spooling up).
Don't land under power, use t-hold.

Otherwise use: 0414-286 - Freya skid foot (low height)

racingstripe,
Thanks for the advise. I already hit TH before landing always. Although I have -13 degrees of pitch, I have my normal curve set up so the blades don't really gain much RPM during spool up until I'm at about mid stick...

The real problem is for those like me who do a lot of autos and not all of them are perfect. Sometimes I try and get a little too cute with the fancy stuff and set it down a little harder than you would like. This is the only heli in my fleet that has a problem as far as that goes.

The Align skids work excellent and look good too.

I know it's bad to put Align products on a Hirobo but so far these have been the best option.

They are quite a bit lighter than the Freya skid foot.

If I break the stock one, I will replace it with the Mavrikk low profile one.

FYI, I only use the black vibration dampers on the rear crosstube of the skids, none in the front. This gives it a slight nose down/ tail up attitude which keeps the tail out of the tall grass. Hope this helps!

Are the Turbulence gear the same as the Freya gear? How much do they cost?

Send your SDX gear and rubber dampers to me.

I will stick the SDX gear on my 600 and get rid of those Align gear that pass so much energy through to the frames that they pretty much guaranty broken frames.

You're right about the goo! Not sure what is up with that.

Here's the gear that I use. They are the Alum. set for the freya. They are quite pricey though! $54.99 at Heli Proz. They look really sharp though!!

skip the black dampeners, bolt them straight on, no hassle, no mess, works great, saves some weight.

I just bought a replacement set and it appears that the stock gear has been updated. Alot stiffer then the set that came with the kit. I also removed the rubber dampers between the frame and landing gear.

Will see how long this set lasts.

Cheers

I believe the stock skids have been updated to become more durable. I still have the original skids on. I kinda like the low rider look

We have the new skids in stock now. They are thicker and don't sag.
