The metal tail grips were only for the prototypes.

This is what I did with mine I did not like the plastic grips these are G-Force grip that were made for the Vibe50 I did have to do some extensive modding though, the grips for the Aurora are long and I could not find any grips to match so I had to make the ones on the G-Force grips longer.

Personally, I want a set of metal grips solely for the "bling" factor.
Everyone can say, "Metal grips are not needed" all they want, but they ARE needed for the guys that just have to have shiny bling.

Bling is good. Chicks really dig shiny metal blingy stuff.

----------------------------------------------

G-Force said in July 2008 that they were in the process of testing a prototype tail grip for the Aurora, but that plan was apparently scrapped a long time ago.

----------------------------------------------

I think the easiest way to put on a metal tail might be to just buy some grips from another helicopter, along with the tail hub and bearings.

The Aurora has a 6mm tail output shaft. I don't think finding metal grips and a tail hub for a 6mm shaft should be too hard to find.

3 years is enough time wasted. Taking a break for a while.

Ok well thanks for the responses guys, and the very interesting photo's gee you did a very neat job of modifying those grips-blade3d

I was thinking along the lines of N9 not sure might try and get some specification and see how they measure up.

Maybe AvantRC have something for the future, time will tell, at the moment I'll order some new plastic ones they are cheap like about $12.00 over here, that's also what I'm talking about a $4K heli- swinging around on a $12.00 back end...................

Thanks guys

You can use a 2.5 or 2.6 mm through bolt and nut to keep your helicopter in the air until you get new blade grips.

When you get the new ones, the proper way to assemble them is to squeeze the plastic halves together with your fingers or a little clamp and snug the self tapping screw. Do not use the screw to draw the parts together or the threads will strip.

Thank you John, that nut/bolt idea did cross my mind, and I may even do it, my Caly5 uses that principle.

I followed the build instructions implicitly, and they are the same as you describe, I must have just over done the tension, I guess.

I've ordered new grips and will try again, but I will keep up the hunt for some metal alternative as well.

I think the chicks like those shinny sparkly things better, although they like it wrapped in the metal bling too.

I like metal tail grips as well. G-force told me they are going to make another batch in the near future.

Yes, Garf from G-force Heli is following this thread and told me he will make a batch of metal t/r grips specifically for the Avant Aurora in the near future. I think it would be best just to subscribe to this thread and he will announce to us when they are available.

It is my understanding that both the Aurora 90 and the E-Aurora use the same t/r blade grips.

I think part of the reason G-force Heli has been so slow in making more t/r blade grips for the Aurora is because Garf has been waiting for 2+ years to get his own helicopter. That would discourage me as well.

That quote is simultaneously hilarious, and tragic.

I will be in line for a pair of these grips at such time as they become available. The plastic grips are perfectly functional, even look nice for plastic, they just seem out of place on the Aurora to me.
