One more question regarding my custom project:

Is there any resistance on the output shaft of Wren 54 gearbox?

In other words can i skip the clutch/one way bearing and make a direct connection to the rotorshaft by using only a pinion and main gear?

That way it should be no problem with autorotaion? Please, correct me if i'm wrong.

USUL,

the output of the Turbine is not physically connected to the input of the second stage, so you could connect directly to the 2nd stage output,

However, US AMA Turbine rules state that is a no-no (I have no idea what the BMFA folks have to say about that), AND by not using the clutch the blades will start to spin the second the turbine spools up, at least with the clutch nothing happens until there is enough gas passing to overcome the blades inertia.

I would also consider it a bad idea to not use a clutch as you are going to have some thermal issues to deal with if to prevent the 2nd stage from rotating at idle.

Given the Wren 54 w/ 2nd stage is designed to use the Predator airframe with the supplied clutch why not build as designed

i have the wren 54 with hobbyparts conversion on my vario acrobat no clutch used at all and it the best thing about it one less part to service . you will need however still need a one way bearing for autorotation , yes the second stage spins free to the first stage but if the second stage or gearbox for whatever reason should seaze then its going to drop out of the sky

Thanks.

I guess i should stay with a HD clutch then. One way is more prone to failures than cluch i think
