Which fuel do you use to fly your nitro helo and why? What are the pros and cons of wildcat and cool power fuel?

I use whatever's cheapest. I haven't noticed any in flight difference what so ever between any of the brands I've tried - Coolpower, powermaster, wildcat. The ONLY difference is tuning because each manufacturer uses a different oil content.

One thing I DO like is fuels that contain a little castor. It mucks up your pipe, but it'll help protect the engine in the event of a lean run.

Outside of that I say no difference at all.

If it's made to be idiot proof, sooner or later they'll build better idiots.

i'll second that. i've noticed no difference in flight between, coolpower and wildcat, other than a little tuning. i have switched between the 2 a couple times without concern. it just depends on availability for me. they both smell really nice too. i like to splash a little on my neck before work in the morning.

I use whatever I can get a my LHS. They had CP forever which I liked but they've now been selling Wildcat. I do know that shortly after I went to Wildcat my rear bearing started to fail. Don't know if it was my new Redline pipe suddenly falling off in flight causing a brief lean run or because I had 8+ gallons through it and it was about due anyway.

The helicopter is a machine trying to commit suicide, our job is convincing her to fly...

morgan fuels

I use cool power. I dont need 30% cause i dont fly wide open and its so expensive now. I use 15 or 20%. You can add some extra synthetic oil if you want. see the blends at morgan fuels at http://www.morganfuel.com/cp_blends.htm. I accidently bought some car fuel and used it anyway by adding some oil. I dont use anything with castor oil. jc

I have been flying Curtis Youngblood Wildcat 30% for a long time and never had any issues with it. Great fuel at a reasonable price.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

When I first started Nitro, I used Cool Power 30% and loved it. Now all I can get here in Upstate NY is Byrons Rotor Rage, it's pretty good and the price is good also. Just seems like the Cool Power smelled better, love the smell of Nitro at the field:

I went to wildcat recently and what a mistake that was. No matter what I did to my needle settings my engine would run lean. Switched to Outrage Formula and that fixed it. Plenty of smoke and very easy to tune.

Use what is easiest to get at a decent price. There are no 'bad' big name brands of fuel right now.

Try to stick to one type of fuel. Tuning is different across different brands.

I just switched from cool power because I came across a deal at IRCHA I couldn't pass up and the tuning is totally different.
Start out very rich and tune from there.
I even started out at factory settings and it was to hot.

When I started I ran CP30%, I thought wooo 30% more power! I moved and the LHS sells wildcat. Looking into things I decided to try 15%. Two reasons really, I can get 5 gals of 15% for the price of 4 gals of 30% and after reading thread after thread on Hyper bearings I decided folks tuning 30% for total max power at least added to the issue. 15% has got to be easier on a motor, I keep my tuning rich and dont need every BTU of energy from my fuel. My skills just dont require max power, for me, stick time is more important to improving my skills than power.

So that was over 25gals ago thru 2 Hyper 50s and an OS37, guess Ill do all my bearings this winter. Not because they are "talking" to me but just because by now they should need replacement.

Thinking Ill stick with wildcat 15% until further notice

The good ole times are now ,Hawk, Raven, Raven NX, Logo 10

I use to go with Byron 30% great fuel expremely clean (took the engine apart after 6 months and it had no marks at all) but since it cost way too much I've changed to CoolPower 30%.
If I find something cheaper most likely I will change, since using around 3 gallons a week is emptying my pockets

Fly it like you stole it!!!

I have always used Magnum fuels. It's made fairly local and can pick it up at great prices. I have tried coolpower quite a while ago and didn't notice any difference other than the price.
