Well all the questions and uncertainties about parallel charging, I thought I would make a simple video showing how I do it and explaining a few things along the way. Enjoy!

parallel charging is very convenient, with my 1010 I charge up to 5 3s packs at the same time quite often, also when you plug them in parallel it is not necessary to wait for them to balance to each other as long as they are relatively close,11.1 and 11.2v you can just throw on a parallel deans and start charging without any kind of an issue, also while it is nice to parallel the balance tap it is also not necessary when I do a parallel charge I just plug my 1010 into one of the batteries and I will plug it in the other battery on the next charge, on just about all new packs balancing is not needed more than every 10-15 cycles anyway unless you over discharge. I have flown some packs just to test it up to 85 flights without balancing and when I plugged it in my 1010 it was .05 off which is very very close. if you plug a fully charged 3s 2200 pack into another fully discharged one you will only get about 5a and it will go down very quickly as they get closer to each other, so even if you do something dumb you will not do any serious damage.

Awesome video Chris - thanks for sharing! If you don't mind, I will likely refer many users to this video when they have questions on parallel charging.

One note regarding the last post, balancing is just as important when charging in parallel as it is when charging single batteries and I would not advise charging lipos (especially at higher C rates) without monitoring balance through the balance connections.

Cheers,
David

I am saying that it is just not as necessary for normal charging and parallel charging is no different. as for higher than 1.5c yes it is good to balance every charge.

After a day of flights I just plug all my batteries to my parallel rig, just charge at max amp supported by my charger, which is way less then total cap of the packs. little over an hour all packs charged ready for next day.

No more waiting for beeps and change packs.
No more confusing serial setup.

I will just just my packs one by one to see how healthy they're after a few cycles.

Thank you so much for posting this topic. You saved me countless hours waiting for each pack to finish.

Nope, they can be any capacity as long as they are the same cell count.

In parallel charging they have to be the same cell count but can be any capacity. In serial charging they have to be the same capacity but can be any cell count.

On a different note I accidentally charged a fully charged pack and a fully discharged pack together last weekend. I thought I grabbed the one I had run but it turned out I grabbed the one I was going to run. I tell you, it is hard to keep track of 6 batteries that all look the same. Anyhow I plugged them together and started the charge. Nothing was different. There was no spark when I connected them, no nothing of any kind. some 30min later when I went to run my next pack I found that I had used the wrong one, so I ran over and checked the charger. I stopped the charger and unplugged both packs to see how they were doing. Both packs were at 4.18V on all cells. So I plugged them back in and let them finish, no harm no foul.

one key point here is the balancer.

as for keeping track...I use not only numbers but a PLUS and MINUS sign (black sharpie) on opposite sides of batt.

Plus sign up...its charged! Minus sign up...needs charging.

dont really need to mess with numbers other than for logging purpose.

What key point?

---
I usually keep really good track of my batteries and actually this is the first time I have mixed one up in like 300 flights, so I am not too worried. As for placing to show either charged or discharged, I just lay them label up for charged and label down for not.
