I find the FG canopy quite OK, although a little hard to get on and off (I'll look into this, I have the impression the cut outs around the skids could be made a little deeper to loosen the fitting a little).

As you're going for quite standard servos (S3003), can't you just get some at a LHS ?

I have 3X S3004 servos however there is alot of gear slop.
If I grab the rotor head and twist the grips back and forth the swash moves up and down. My other helis don't have this slop.

So I decided to get some HS-6635 X3 for the cyclic and I am going to try the HS-7966 for a tail servo

HS-6635
Motor Type: 3 Pole
Bearing Type: Dual Ball Bearing

HS-7966
Motor Type: Coreless
Bearing Type: Karbonite Gear with Ball Bearing
Speed: 0.10 / 0.08 sec @ 60 deg.

Are these much cheaper than s9252 (cyclic) and s9254 (tail)? For my 620SE, I got those and from my first tests it looks quite cool and precise (got all four for about 220€ if I'm right)... This was an unknown for me (on my HawkSE I simply have HS605BB, a bit slopy because not digital) so I went for widespread Futaba stuff to be safe (and also to be sure of compatibility with the HS Futaba FAAST stuff).

I guess those you mention are digital?

No probs I'm using Spektrum
the HS-6035 have better specs than S-9252
and cost about 30$ less
HS-7966 cost the same as the 9252 and have better specs than the 9254 for a tail servo.
as far as quality goes
I've had good luck with Hitec servos

Now that these are out
I think I will stick with hitec

Oh... well, next time I'll look closer at Hitech servos before going straight to Futaba.

Hitec

Yes servo selection is tough. I have had all brands fail on me at one time or another. Futaba trying to get more than they ware rated for in power. JR just centering issues and same killing one trying to get more than it was rated for.
I will have to say the hitec servos have failed more often and more times when pushed. Even when operating below rated value. Airplane and Heli use.

I think they are good servos and the servo spec is honest but I think they rate them at actual value and not what they can produce consistantly without failing on the Amp unit.

Just what I have found over time.
The new Hitec is another generation so you really can not judge on past performance.

Love to hear how they do long term keep us up to date !!

that isn't mine, i just painted it.

It belongs to a local guy. He runs 6S on that puppy...might as well have an IV hooked up beside it filled with crack and steroids...

I agree, as I have had the same less then favorable experiences with HiTech servos. I found them relatively worthy in the area they seem to concentrate on - micro servos for the smaller electrics - but not dependable enough in their standard sized servos for the larger helis.

I have found the Futaba servos to be the most dependable, without needing high voltages to perform properly, so have settled on them as my main servos over the past few years.

There was an interesting test of a number of digital servos in a magazine about a year or two ago, and the HiTech ones then were OK but did not live up to their specs as well as did most of the others.

As you say, maybe their current generation will be better, but I will let others be the beta testers before I try any more.

I finally got my servos and installed them tonight.
Unfortunately this bird doesn't like Hitec servos
This heli needs a lower profile servo.
I ended up scavenging 3 other servos (Hitec) from my other nitro
to finish this long project.

I unwrapped my new plastic canopy and cut out the windshield to install on my new heli
only 1 problem " NO SCREWS " almost 30$ for a canopy and they can't even include the 6 tiny screws or 4 grommets. (< 2$)

Hopefully I get to maiden it this week

However I have to comment on the quality of this kit on a scale of 10, I would rate it a 5.
How long has this kit been on the market ?
This kit still has alot issues to work out.
There was alot work involved to get the frame parts to fit right.
Then there is the CG, it is tail heavy even with a 6S pack.
And aside from the missing parts there is a quality issue.
The FG canopy is very brittle and will crack on the first test fit.

A big thanks goes out to " Century Heli" the person
with out his help this heli would have never got completed.

Hopefully Century will revamp this kit.

Oh, a shame the servos didn't fit in the end. Well, at least you had some others to use. Just as a side note, my S9252 went in "quite" fine (I had to mill one of the aluminium spacers for the "elevator" servo to fit, but I think this is the case for any servo, the spacer is just to close).

About the overall quality, I must admit that the overall purchase to build process left me a kind of mild feeling for my 620SE. Initial delivery was slow (stuck in customs, partly at least because the invoice wasn't right), there were some missing parts (so I had to pre-build everything to list the missing parts), then I waited some time for the missing parts, then I had to "unbuild" quite a lot to put the missing parts in (specially the A-Arm), then I rebuilt and came across some issues (needed a vice to get bearings in place, needed to dremel a spacer for the elevator servo, sanding the gyro/receiver tray, getting the screws in the motor, grinding the guide pins, and probably more I can't remember, …). I also have the quite annoying CG problem (even with my 6S pushed as far forward as possible). Oh, and also, the really annoying problems with the linkage lengths (I couldn't use the rods from the kit, they were just too long), I spent ages messing around trying to get this right (the manual was just wrong). Also, the manual is short for a new comer to the Swift

However, on positive side:

- Now the heli is flying it's really great. For now I'm 100% satisfied with it (and the CG problem doesn't seem to disturb it much)

- My FG canopy seems pretty strong to me (I've had no problem yet). It's a little hard to put on and off, but nothing abnormal I think

- I find the overall quality OK, nothing exceptional, but OK (just there seems to be a bit of slop in the CNC swashplate, I'll compare with the TREX 600 ESP one to see)

- Century make no hassle at all about sending missing parts or helping over the phone

In conclusion, I agree the overall quality of the kit could be improved (specially missing parts, although Century makes no hassle about sending them), and it is a kit for "modellers", it takes some building (vice, sand paper, drilling, dremelling, …). It reminds me of old Vario helicopters. It's true that given the age of the kit you could except that things would have been fixed by now.

But right now, all this is passed, and has been nevertheless quite fun (I like modelling, I'll never buy a PlugAndPlay kit). This lunch time I'm of for another great flight with the 620SE (maybe try to get some inverted flying in today)!

Like to hear how you're one flies!

PS added after luch time test flight : The flight this lunch time went fine and I did get some inverted in. It rolls/flips really quick and straight. I'm quickly buiding confidence in this heli and should soon be doing all I can (i.e. mildish 3D).

Lucky bugger
it's rainy over here

Ya the 620se kit certainly has the better canopy

I don't care for the wrap around style it is too cumbersome to remove and put back on. The plastic canopy makes this easier.

Too bad they don't have a plastic version of the 620 canopy

Maiden Flight !!!

Yeah got to maiden it today
Too bad the tail won't lock in easily
I am using this servo HS-7966 with out good results
going to try a 9254 see how that works out

takes some getting used to the LG, It's so narrow compared to my Raven
The power is more than enough, at 85% the climb outs are faster then my Raven
unfortuantely the tail won't hold to a full 100% climb out

At least not yet

Pleased to hear it's flying. See, these slow builds do touch to an end at some point!

I have a "simple" GY401/s9254 setup and it feels pretty locked in to me, I've never seen the CY gyro in action, but I guess it's good, see how it goes with the s9254.

The other point is stranger. You say when full climbing the tail doesn't have the power to keep the heli straight? Mine does, but it has a longer boom (620SE). Are you sure you've got full travel on the slider (I have metal tail blade grips, but I don't think that changes anything)?

What did you do for the CoG in the end? Have you an RX battery or not?

I'm still hesitating between an RX battery or cutting the canopy out to put the LiPo further forwards. Another option I'm considering is simply sliding the canopy forwards, I'd say I could slide it about 4 cm forwards (maybe even put it lower), hence shift the LiPo forwards of 4 cm to. I'm going to test this evening to see how far forwards the LiPo needs to be to get CoG right. But I also figure that cutting out a little would probably improve cooling of the LiPo.

My nitro has a CY and 9254 and it works very well
The 401 gyro works very well it's just the piro rate that is inconsistent.

The tail didn't hold yesterday, I believe it may have been servo related so I put a 9254 on it last night.

to fix the CoG I used a 6V nicad RX pack
the other benefit is you now have a safer heli
you arm the rx first before plugging in the main battery
kind of like flying my nitro
also safer for set-up

aside from having monster power from the S4025 motor the battery stays cooler, after a 5 min flight the lipo is only warm

this 550 is also more agile, has more power than my NX but only weighs about 800 grams less

It's a heavy 550 but you wouldn't know it watching it fly
