I'm flying a Hacker A40 8L in a Logo 500. I like the motor and suits my flying style well. My only dislike is the how hot the motor gets. Especially since the temps here in nor cal have been in the high 90's or over 100 degrees latley. I am a bit concerned, Anybody recommend a cooler running and effecient motor.

I'm not a Logo team pilot but I fly a Logo500 with 6S5000 lipo, 4020-1100 scorpion motor, 15T 0.7mod pinion, at 2300 headspeed. She runs great with no bogging.

From my experiance with the scorps, they also run on the warm side.
I found the Zpower motors to run cool and are also quite effecient.
The scorps i think are power hungry, there a grate motor with loads of power but that comes at the expense of flight time.
The zpower being effecient is good but it does lack the power of a scorp.
If you dont want balls out power and you want long flight time with low temps the zpower could be a good option. (zpower Z50A)
There may also be some other options but i have only run, hackers, zpowers, neu and scorpions. Out of that lot the zpower is the coolest running setup but also the least amount of power.

I bought my Logo 500 used and it has a Neu 1900/1Y 1050 Kv motor in it. My flight times have been excellent and it has plenty of power for sport flying.

I have a Tango 45-10 and Jazz 55 in my Logo 500 and has plenty of power for my style of flying (aerobatic sport flying), motor comes down cold to the touch and very efficient.

I vote for the Scorpion 4020-1100 KV motor on 15T pinion. I have seen Oyatco's L500 flown by a very good 3D pilot. The power is obscene. It is also so smooth that I have to build one with the same set up as his.

All the above mentioned motors are great on the L500. For me I choseon the scorpion motor because it was one of the cheapest power set-up I could find. Plus, maintenance, as in bearing replacement, is easy compared to an Align or Neu motor. So, in case I wear this motor up, it won't hurt my wallet. I read about the Xera motors, but they were not readily available when I needed one. Either way, just fly what suits your fantasy.

Is your A40 8L the ET motor? It should not run hot at all
Check your ESC advance setting (don't use high advance)

The Scorpion runs much hotter than the Hacker

Hi
The only thing with the NEU is they do run hot.
I only say this as your first post, you wanted a cooler running setup. I run 2 NEU motors they both come down hot after a flight and that is in UK tempretures average 20c in summer.
They are good motors and produce good power.

I'm using a 15T pinion with the 0.7 mod gear. My Logo is swinging 550mm blades and the headspeed measured by my Eagle Tree with brushless RPM sensor was anywhere from 2269 with my weakest pack to 2387 with my strongest. That's with the Jive's governor and a throttle curve of 85%.

The motor does get pretty hot, but I've never flown it when the temperatures were below the 90s.

Switch to this Hacker if you want a reliable and cool running setup
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=7840

Note that your current motor is rated at 1100 watts
and this motor (the ET in the link)
is rated at 2000 watts

hey thanks for the great info!! Flew again today. It was considerably cooler about 88* outside. The motor was just warm. Think I will do some motor research and pick one up in Jan or Feb, since the hot summer days should be leaving soon.

KDFI, I have the same setup in my Logo500 and the motor has never come down really hot. I know hackers have a rep for running hot, i've just never seen it on this motor. Even when running the 13T pinion the heat bottleneck was the ESC and not the motor.

Unfortunately my Hacker is sounding a bit rough after a few crashes and around 500 flights on it. I have a Scorpion 4020 1100kv here to try out as soon as the pinions come back in stock. Also just stretched mine to a 500SE and will see how both these motors do swinging 600mm just to see.

All the Xera motors are heavier than Scorpion
I very much doubt you will notice the weight difference

But you don't want a Xera 4020 in a L500 because
it's power (watt) rating is well below the Scorpion 4020
Get the Xera 4025 for sure...

Check em out at Esprit Models...

x-era 4020-1100? No such motor, unless it was released today and not on their site?

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...
