Augusto told me that the price of the E-Aurora will be less than the nitro kit, and since the nitro kit goes for $1000, I guess we can conclude the E-Aurora will be less than $1000.

Are you saying it will come with the motor in the kit?

I read the same thing somewhere.

I think bundling the motor would be a mistake because different people may want to choose a different motor than the Scorpion -500.

Pretty sure it wont, he said nothing of it over at Avant forum, so Im sure it will be just a kit.

Yeah the rep was pretty specific that the kit would include the motor...

Guess we'll have to wait to find out what they finally decide on their pricing/bundling strategy.

I just wish the kit would come with the option of a flybarless head so that I won't have to hock the stock head on E-bay. That would certainly save me a few dollars.

By the way, I was pricing the ThunderPower 45C 6S 5000mAh batteries, and they are currently running $299 each. That means the batteries for a 5 minute flight with the E-Aurora will cost $600.

Quite easy to convert the stock head, then you can "upgrade" at next "opportunity"

I fly mine with Vbar on it, stock grips with 2 MA pitch levers on it.

Its actually very easy to convert the stock head, Thomas Moore and I did it in one night using stock parts. Basically we used the flybar double ball with the pitch arms and found what head setting yielded 0 delta. We did however use the mikado swash driver.

As Jason said, moving the pitch arm to yield zero delta and using the double ball off of the flybar carrier gives the perfect head settings for a flybarless Aurora. This gave me a linkage position of 29mm from the center of the spindle. I love how it flies, and it just adds to the already solid feel of the machine while saving weight at the same time.

I haven't examined the stock Aurora head yet, but from memory I think it is similar to the MA tempest head.

Do you have a picture of your Aurora FBL conversion? I am very hesitant to do a conversion where I end up with the balls 90 degrees to the main shaft (such that the links can fly off at high collective).

I'm really happy with the FBL conversion I did on my Spectra using stock MA parts and a Mikado swash driver. I was able to get the correct geometry and I was also able to get the balls "sideways" to the centripetal acceleration such that I do not have to worry about them flying off. I had a control arm fly off the head on a Outrage G5 FBL conversion last year, and I don't want that to ever happen again.

Here is a picture of my Spectra. I can have unlimited cyclic/collective without any concern about the links popping off.

Do you think an arrangement like this would be possible with Avant parts?

I've heard somewhere that Avant offers a native FBL head for the nitro. Do you know were I could find a picture of this, or does this part even exist?

With stock parts no, the links are mounted parallel with the headblock, vs being mounted perpendicular with the headblock like on your MA conversion.

No FBL head designed from Avant is available for purchase. The head is still under development.

MrMel, your head looks perfect. Exactly what I am looking for. Thank you so much for the photograph.

How much fabrication did you need to do (i.e. grinding metal) for this conversion?

It looks to me like you're using a Mikado swash driver, MA FAI pitch arms, and MA control rods. Did the delta angle turn out fine, or did you have to modify the pitch arms or other parts in some way to get zero delta?

1) cut off the back of the FAI pitch arms a little since they are too long.
2) widen one of the hole for the bolts a little since the center distance between the hole is just a fraction of a mm off.
3) make sure you dont use too long bolts, they will hit the bearings if you have too long (inside the grip)
4) use MA Double-ball balllink on the inner ball, perfect Delta.

yes, using Mikado Swashdriver.
Im using MA links (they are quite long) and they have 3mm rods.
However, another option would be to lower the head a little, its quite high on the aurora so it wouldnt hurt, then you can use shorter links.

Increased risk of boom strikes aside, the "lowrider" FBL heads always look nice.

Jason, do you have any news on when the Avant FBL head will see production? Augusto told me it would "be offered as an upgrade at the time of the E-Aurora release and then become an optional at a later time", but I am not part of the in-crowd at Avant so maybe you know more than I do?
