Plate

I don't intend to put the plate on the bottom. I am going to sandwich the carb between the plate and the block. It will look kinda like this O==0==O the inner hole being big enough to slide over the top throat of the carb, the 2 outer holes being for the bolts. I have checked the linkage clearences and everything should line up. This will alow consistent pressure on the seal all the way around.

[quote]so u need to drill a hole on the os carb.

Git, No the set screw hole will have to be drilled in the motor lip not the carb , take a look at the pics again, the o ring comes on the OS 50 carb already .You are just using the set screws to hold the carb in its place . The hole is roughly 15 mm . after its drilled out.Thats the reason to use mm drill bits.

Git,, if you go to Thunder Tiger's site you will see the 53's carb is held on by the screws protruding straight threw the top of the carb down into the case

SC Raptorman,, some of the best Glow Engines made in the world have set screws holding the carb on, such as my German made HB 61..

We are going to try this mod tomorrow. I am seeing that I will have to shorten the throat of the carb that goes into the case. Also, why can't we put the carb on a lathe and turn it down so it slides into the case instead of boring out the case. I was thinking about the gringings getting in the motor.

You would probably want to take the motor apart first before cutting. That will make it eaiser to clean. IMHO

Jason is right you need to strip the motor down naked to do this , you do not want any metal to damage the motor .

Ren,If you want the most power out of the TT53 the RL pipe is the only way to go, the MP5 and Align is tuned for the 50 OS because of the port timing and back pressure it produces . 2 strokes are very pipe sensitive that's the reasons some pipes work and some do not as well . I have tested each pipe and you can tell the difference if they are tuned to perfection .Companies are doing alot of research on getting the most power from their products with testing and technology . Just my 2 cents .

Just finished putting the .53 back together after doing this mod, thanks to eric_b and his vast knowledge. Kudos buddy.
Had to strip the motor to the bare case but all worked out fine.
Going to get everything back together and test fly.

What are some things to look for? Do I need to change any of my throttle curves?

Set it up like you been doing 1/2 stick 50% throttle .keep your atv even and I like the fastest servo you can afford on the throttle.

Anybody forsee any side-effects (decrease in power etc...) if i lathe the OS carb throat down instead of boring a hole in the crankcase?
From what i can deduce, area/volume going into the carb is the same whichever the method.

Thanx!

I only seen an increase and this is the first prototype. I am sure there are small things that will make a huge diffrence. The biggest thing is that you will not have to worry about the carb sticking and you gotta love that.

Pitch Black If you try to mill down the throat on the carb, it will end up being 3/4 mil thick. Not a good idea.
Bore the hole in the case to 14.5 mm and the carb will fit nicely.

I did mine with eric_b's help and everything works fine. Took the R50 out for some tests flights and went great. More power too.
I know I am running on the rich side and still had lots of power. So I will work on the fine tuning and give you an update. But so far this is a good mod for the TT .53

I am a gallon and 1/2 in testing so far and no carb sticky and plus a bonus on the power. Im using Magnum 30% that doing just fine with it , the same fuel they was telling me that was my problem , I do not think so and Buzz said bloney also. Glad to hear Denheli carb mod is working and lean that thing and hang on . Thanks Jason, I know Im proud to now have a safe working carb that I can trust on a good TT53 .
