I have been battling the carb sticking problem on the TT53 for a while, TT has sent replacements and still no help , I finally decieded to share what I did and created a Monster doing so . Some have had trouble tuning the TT53 and this took care of that problem too and plus it give it so much power you can not describe , all I can say I will not need to update to the newer version of OS55 or YS56 and spend the extra money in doing so , Im like most of you as I had several Hyper carbs laying around , the carbs worked great on the Hyper so why not see what happens on the TT53. I am very pleased and you will too if you do the same. Like I say its very cheap project to do as all I had to buy was some mm drill bits to do the boring in intake hole to fit the carb to the TT53 , as you see I put 2 small 4 mm set screws to hold it own the motor block .The O-ring from the carb seals it off to keep it from sucking air . I hope this will help the ones that have taken the old TT53 motor and replaced it to another source , If you have the orignal carb that is working this does not apply to you .Check my gallery for all the pics of the carb .

interesting! So do those 2 screws go right into the carb itself? Also with this are you having to tune with os needle settings?

Hmm, this is really interesting.
I do have a few OS carbs lying around.

From what i see, you drilled the TT crankcase with a M3.5(or smaller) drill bit on both sides. Those holes are then tapped, and M4 set screws then screw in on both sides to "bite" onto the Carb neck.
Before all that, you bored the intake slightly larger to accept the neck of the OS carb. Any ideas on how much to bore till?

Can i re-install the TT53 carb after that with no leaks?

Would appreciate more details. Who dosn't like more power.

Thanx!

I did not harm the mounting where the TT53 carb goes and I do not see why it would not work except for the set screw holes you would have to plug up and seal back off . Power I can not describe .

This is gettin exciting.
I'll measure up the diameter of the OS carb neck.
If i can get my hands on a 53 crankcase, or another 53, i'm so gonna do it.
How much of a % increase in power, from the feel of your thumbs alone?

Thanx!

The power is insane , you will need the new TT Redline pipe to get all the hp out it though, as I have tested a few different pipes the TT is no 1 for sure.

Nice job!!!

Got some questions for you though, did you have to mod the carb throat on the engine block at all? Was it a direct fit? Tight, or a little sloppy? Me myself I think that I will try this mod, but will make a plate to go over the bore opening of the OS carb and tag the threaded holes already in the block for the original carb. That way nothing is modded, just implacement of the new carb.
Thanks for the info and showing that theres more than one way to skin a cat.

I like what Kim did on the 53 it looks like a real winner I've been thinking about this for a while because I like the engine but again, TT has installed an absolute POS for a carb and you either get a good one or you get one that is an abominable PIA to work with. The camming action on the barrel is the culprit here. I just want to machine an adapter that fits up the OS carb to the TT before I do mine.

I'm going to try this mod. My carb is a POS. Just need to know how much to bore the crank case to accept the OS carb.
Great info.

+1 of os carbs.. predictable and reliable tuning. saw on the nova57 post, ppl are modding theirs as well.. and KME60 was designed specifically to use the os50 carb..

well done.. but still, there no replacement for displacement im joining HC with the KME60

Thomas , the answer to your question the fit was decent but not perfect as the o ring helped seal up the error , I'm not a machinist but I did it the poor boy way . All I know it works great, I had thought about the adapter plate the way like you and TM are talking about but I wanted to keep the carb at the same location as stock as possible to keep linkage problems to minimum .Plus raising the carb would give it more tunnel ram effect but I was trying to keep the torque as the RL has plenty of both at the carbs location . Glad you like my mod and you will after you try for sure.

Git, the KME 60 looks real good but the extra weight and heavier pipe you have to run will make some difference and plus my mod will save some money in the long run , A well tuned small block will run with a big block to a point .Just my 2 cents though . I do like the KME60 though but you see what carb they chose to use as they like the design and working ability of the 60L to feed their motor.

Nice job SC Raptorman! I had thought of doing the same, but, like TMoore, I was more inclined to have an adaptor machined to fit the OS carb. You paved the way by proving it works. Thanks! I wonder if someone here on RR with a machine shop could make some adapters to sell us?

ok ok.. now the itch is getting itchier i need instant power for my beater heli. gonna grab a fren's rl53 2nd hand. a few questions coz i never own an TT before. by looking at ur mod, the tt holds the carb in place with a screw just like os engines for planks. so u need to drill a hole on the os carb.

Quote
except for the set screw holes you would have to plug up and seal back off

what do mean by this?

can you share rough measurement for the required hole? im mm. i.e. from bottom rim of carb to centre of hole.

i noticed an o ring on ur engine. is that from the tt carb or os carb?
