My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I noticed that when flying my Quark outside, it occasionally drops to the ground. I apply full throttle but usually it cannot regain flight and lands. Is this just because its fixed pitch?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		It's not really a power issue. I can pull out of the drop and fly for another 5 minutes or so. It usually happens after fff and I flare out to hover. I'm not sure if its a downdraft or what. I was just curious if it ever happened to anyone else.

it sounds like a range problem , be sure to leave the RX antenna just hanging down loose under the heli , don't try to have it taped up to the boom or wrapped around the skid , it seems to work best just hanging loose , and also be sure to extend the TX antenna all the way , cheers

Vortex ring effect. This happens to all helicopters at certain times. FP is especially susceptible. The best way to avoid this is to keep moving forward.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Thanks TM. I researched Vortex ring effect. I never heard of it before but it its interesting. Thats gotta be what it is. It has happened 10 yards away from from me - cant be a radio issue, I can hear it throttle up.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have same issue. I am flying and it just slowly goes to the ground, but if I stay at full throttle it takes off again. Frustrating. I have tried multiple batteries.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		That sounds like a radio range issue. The issue I have described apparantly has to due with the heli getting caught in its own downdraft. Make sure your anntena on the heli is extended and your transmitter batts have a full charge...

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Vortex ring state/ settling with power can be overcome by forward motion. Is this the case with your issue? For example, don't try to hover up out of it, but if you keep forward motion does it help?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Clean your motors people. Good contacts are key to long life and steady power. Also the vortex effect is indeed a factor. I found the foam blades tend to "cone" (flex upward a but more)after a few flights as they are constantly holding the heli against gravity under stress loads. It allows more air to slide out from under the blades and lost ver the tip at the end of the blades. The CF blades do not do this as often from what I can tell.

A really good fix for this,and also makes the heli fly better, is to tape a small carbon fiber rod to the leading edge (full length) of each blade. They will also stay in track much better and improves the CG of these very wide blades.
