New & Emerging R/C Helicopters > Big money Flasher 500 still bleeding my wallet....

I bought a Flasher 500 kit just to see how it would compare to the Trex 500 ESP it's supposed to be cloned from.
Trust me,Align is happy I did

I have removed almost everything and replaced it with Align as one part after another fails.

Tonight was the topper.lol...The tail blade grip exploded and slung the blade up through the main rotor disc punching a small hole in the BRAND NEW Align CF.

Talk about a bobbing tail.lol...Try landing with one tail blade. It also clipped the servo link so I lost tail authority as well.
I got it down OK but it was bobbing so hard it hit the ground on landing and stripped the TT gears.

I have a Scorpion 3026 1400kv with a 15T pinion and 162T main gear.
Pretty high headspeed but the exact same set up as my Trex 500 ESP's.

The bolt just lost its head and is embedded in the spindle.

My next order will only leave the GF frame sides and skids as non-Align.lol....

I've had actual Align tail units do the same thing.

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

This is the first tail blade grip I've ever lost.
Oh well,I wanted to get an Align TT rear anyway.
I'll be adding an Align ESP rotor head too.I can just see one of the main grips blowing off.

Maybe an order to RCScrewz is in order as well.Hmmmm

looking at that pic, it looks like the bolt holding the grip on either broke or stripped out of the thread, wonder if its poor quality bolt as apost to a part malfunction either way its the same result in the end I suppose.

It was an ugly landing but I managed to keep it on its skids with no damage other than the umbrella gears.

I was about 15 or 20 feet up and put it straight down where it blew apart.

The bolt is broken off in the spindle.
It was dark and I saw sparks when it went

Ahhhh. Landing with one tail blade is fine. One time my G5 threw out tail blade. Emergency landing, lot of vibes, but it was contollable. I even found a blade.

To be honest,I don't know if it was Locktited. It was preassembled and all I did was check to see if it was tight.
I appreciate the interest though.
I don't use Locktite very much.I prefer to just check all the fasteners often as possible. It's rare that I lose a screw or bolt(unless they break)lol.

I'm guessing from this statement that you have limited nitro heli experience.

Having had mostly all nitro helis over the years, I Loctite EVERYTHING, even my shoelaces. It's just a matter of using the right Loctite for the job.

No nitro experience and not much interest in them. That's not to say I have no interest in them.I may build a nitro bird over the winter.Trex 700 and the Aurora look interesting to me.

For now,I've had a bunch of Trex 500's,a bunch of 450's and one Trex 600 ESP.
The Trex 500 is my favorite so far.

Fasteners backing out on me has never been an issue with my electrics but the junkass Align screws stripping and rounding out has. That's why I don't Locktite.I also never put an Align fastener back after removing it.There is no place on a heli for those 1.5mm socket heads.

I totally understand that!!!

Keep in mind that Loctite 222 has some holding strength and doesn't make the junkass screw problem much worse.

Cool.Thanks.
I may start trying some on parts that don't wear out or otherwise get removed.

you think the flasher 500 is crap?

No.Not completely. The rotor head is still going strong at 3050-3200rpm.That has to say something for it.

I started this lil rant a while back and the few bugs it had were just slamming me all at once.
For one,my headspeed is(was)too high for the design and/or materials.
I've dropped a tooth and now spin 2882 rpm and it seems all good now.
The torque tube isn't straight but I still use it.I moved the carrier bearing from 60% aft to 60% fore. That killed the bobble.
It's sort of grounded now.Waiting on a new tail boom.
The one I have has a hole in it from when the tail gear blew up and sent shrapnel through the boom.It still flys though.

It is a very cheap kit but all the upgrades needed for fast flying brings the price right up there with Align.Actually a little more.
If a sport flyer or hovering practice machine is what you need or want,it is a super machine.

The blades that came with it are definately crap.Dangerous I'd say.
They are sooooooo imperfect that they look like cottage cheese stuffed in a sock.

The basic mechanics are good though as long as you keep the headspeed reasonable.

Whatever...I guess I just can't figure it out without help from someone like you?

Did someone hold your hand all the way through or did you just man up and do it yourself?

You keep talking patterns and lack of skill....do you even know what I'm up to or what I'm trying to do?

I'm intentionaly pushing it to break.I just want to see where it breaks and what it takes to break it.My heli.

I have built plenty that fly fine or even better than fine.
This one is going to catch hell and get broke alot.
I'll let y'all know just what it can and can't take.
