Mike Fortin If your not changingglow plugs in 30 gallons then I applaud you but I would also challange that since I find it extremely hard to believe.
Don't matter if you believe it or not,I don't run my motor to max temps like allmost everyone does.Theres people at my club that knows I fly 4-5 days a week,6-7 flights a day and have never seen me change a plug or burn one up.johnsb8 can back me up on that,I fly with him alot and he will tell you hes never once seen me change or burn a plug up sence I rebuilt my motor.I run my motor a tad on the rich side and my heli runs awesome and does everything I want it to do...
I too like this sight...and you brought out a good point...why do some guys try to lean out their machines...even if you run them "fat" and they make great power (as much or more than you can handle); why in the world would you want to good back 50 years to when the deal was off and wide open. The more smoke the better off you and your engine will be. MHO
Yeah I never understood why people max there motors out and I still don't .Some people don't fly hard 3D or even close to it but they think they need a 200F head temp with a 2100rpm head speed to do loops, rolls, inverted hovering and maybe some tictocs.Im around 1950rpm head speed,180-185F max on the head with no gov and I can toss my heli around pretty good "I think" .I guess I run my motor/heli for the way I fly,no need to max it out..
Yep, I never thought I would want/need a SwitchGlow until I tried one. Now I have three! Lets face it, the remote glow igniters break very often. All that gets eliminated with the SwitchGlow. I also don't have to worry about glow driver batteries being dead. Don't we have enough batteries to keep up with? Bottomline, I haven't found anyone who installed a SwitchGlow remove it later. That says something.
30 gallons is a long time to use a glowplug. They are like incandescent light bulbs in that the filament burns up slowly. There is only so much platinum to burn off till the glow plug doesn't work well anymore. They also get deposits on them which adversly affect their performance. Just a guess, but I doubt any engine manufacturer will say it is wise to burn 30 gallons without changing the plug.
Its been doing good and the only way i'll change it is if she burns out or performance changes .I have no reason to lie cause its only a $6.00 dollar plug, theres nothing wrong with it and my motor runs strong so im leaving it alone.
I leave my motors on rich side also having good power plugs do last along time . I find that if you run lean and at high rpm you will blow plugs IMO I think this is telling you that something is not rite unnecessary ware and tear OH yea I do fly hard and very frequently about three gallons on two helis a week.
I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!
