I have been to Freestyle3d flying school several times and been taught by both Jason and Todd. I want people to know that they both stress safety first with 3d flying.
I have seen them both fly at the school and I have to tell you those guys are in complete control at all times and it is the best 3d flying I have ever seen.
I doubt Jason was doing anything dangerous in cc after what I was taught at the school.
By the way it was worth every penny I cant wait to go back.

We should be honored that people like Jason, Ronlund, etc. etc. even bother with spending time on this forum. Seems like so far because of a few sour grapes that their time spent here would be more hassle to them than it is worth.

I for one appreciate the fact that they participate in the forum as I'm certain most people here do as well. Its a shame that they come here and seem to spend more time defending themselves. Its nice to have people like them here as at least you know where they stand in the hobby. Too many people out there pass themselves off as knowing something but can barely hover.

I hope the experts stick around.

""Too many people out there pass themselves off as knowing something but can barely hover""
Wow I'm glad somebody said that first!!
Also the Name dropping is seriously bad taste,If you have a problem with someone go to them, dont come here and try to build yourself a little army of complainers.Another thing, If you dont like the way a funfly/contest is going then practice your american rights and speak to someone about it.If that dosent help then just leave. Not every aspect of this hobby is for everybody. And let me politely say....
If You Cant Hang With The Big Dawgs Then Stay On The Porch!!!

Sometimes your the bug......Sometimes your the windshield

Todd or Jason

I'm one of those guys that hover (about 8 years) I would rather stand beside Jason or Todd or Curtis than myself, I trust all of them. Anything can happen, 2 foot to 500 foot, we all know that. I've seen planes and helicopters go into the pits, I've never seen any good 3D polits doing there thing go into the pits, I'm not saying that it can not happen we all know that it can, I'm just saying that I would rather stand beside one of them because I trust them and there equipment. Rons puts on a good FF, if you don't like the way there run, leave, your in America. Bobby Seller

Amazing that we don't see more serious injuries with these things! Hopefully common sense prevails at the flying fields and people police each other... I'm sure everyone has stories about that one guy at your field who makes you stop what you're doing while he's flying so you can plan your escape route out of the area!

All I ever hear Todd talking about is safety... These things are dangerous!!!! Like someone said above, the guys who have been doing this forever, even though they're pushing the envelope, are still (in my opinion) much safer than the guy who has only been flying a few months and has considerably less control.

Some funfly's don't have the room to allow for decent separation from the pit... The encino site where the H-cup is held and the end of summer funfly that Dabling puts on, is at the other end of the spectrum. You have to walk almost a 100 yards to get ot the flightline!

As long as people respect these machines, hopefully we won't be discussing anyone getting hurt by one on this forum...

Bro you have some serious issues you need to work out in your head.. I know you have switched screen names 3 times from siko3d to siko3d+1 and now to fluteplayer... If you have some issue with me email me with your phone number and I will call you and we can settle it. I fly rc helicopters to have fun and enjoy myself not put down other people and try to disparage other rc pilots. If you fly RC helicopters and I say a big if then you can relate that all your time and effort to try to put down my reputation is just a waste of your time, and quite childish. This sport is for grown ups not for sniveling little children. If you have some issue with me rep’ing for a company and you want to or don't think you can maybe we can get together and I can help you out with your fling. But the 10 year old name calling is just pathetic.

Well I don't know Adam that well but I have talked to him on the phone a few times. He was a standup guy who really loves the hobby! I think that is what this is all about "the hobby" So what if he talks about Todd and Jason! Scott Gray is a friend of mine and part of our heli club and it makes me proud to know him and have the chance to fly with him on a regular basis.

As Adam said name calling is a cowards way out and really shows your true intelligence!

Flame suit is ready!!!!

I am sorry to be entering the conversation late; however there is something to be said about saftey from everyone of us. I started flying with Todd Bennett in 95 and from day one saftey has been a continued effort that we must all make. That is direct advise from the best that I have always heard since I started. Many of us look at someone like Todd as some type of superstar. I know Todd would rather be looked at as another pilot that is prone to mistake as everyone else is also. Todd has a scare on his shin about rotor hieght . That was from one slight lapse of thought. Todd has got to be hands down one of the safest pilots I know. His unfortunate expirence should make us all try to be more safe. What is most important to remeber is that even the best there is will make mistakes. So understand we are all prone to mistakes. Mistakes create saftey hazards. So please no matter what you fly(because no brand discriminates) don't turn your back on it. It will bite you. Be as safe as you can be and ask the people around you to do the same. Lets not let anyone get hurt if we can help it.

Hello All,

A little post and shameless recomendation for FreeStyle3D school. Left my home in northern Caifornia friday late morning and drove 6 1/2 hours to Simi Valley, California. Arrival time was 3:20pm at the Grand Vista Hotel, which is located 10 minutes from the school field utilized by Todd Bennett and Jason Krause.

The hotel was $100 to $195 for a room, depending on your budget and needs. There is several restaurants located in the hotel and room service is available also. Rooms were clean and the one I stayed in was big and cozy, my wife went with me to lounge in the room. I also understand, but I could be misinformed, that Hollywood is not to far away and could be a side trip if interested.I was not.

When entering the Los Angeles area Friday afternoon the winds where blowing 40mph and gusting to 60mph, which was not a good sign. Called Todd to let him know I had made it and we talked about the wind for 10 minutes and hoped that Saturday would be a better day for flying.

Saturday came and it seemed that the winds were blowing harder and I was getting that sinking feeling. Todd arrived at the hotel at 9:00 am. I loaded my new fury .91 and gear into the back of his truck and off we went to the field, to meet George from Australia. The damn wind was not cooperating and Todd decided that it was best to live to fly another day. He suggested that we go to his home and we could have a question and answer period and also take a look at my fury setup. George and I agreed.

The time spent at Todd's house was quite educational and relaxing, with some humor thrown in for fun. We looked at one of the school furys and it was pointed out that this machine had no special modifications and no great electronics. The point being, to show students how a stock fury can really fly. We talked for about 5 hours and at about 2:00 pm we made a plan to arrive Sunday morning at the field at 6:30 am to try and catch a window of no wind for some lesson flying. Todd drove me back to my hotel and I awaited Sundays arrival with much anticipation. Jason had to work Saturday some where in Hollywood flying a camera helicopter for a production company. So was not there. Todd assured George and I that Jason would be there Sunday.

Sunday morning, at 6:30 am, I meet George at the field and the winds were only clocking 15mph to 20mph. Todd had said he would be there around 7:00 am and would get Jason out of bed and drag him down to the field to help with lessons and take a look my fury with a test flight thrown in to boot. The lessons began shortly after thier arrival, as most of the safety reminders were disscused yesterday, but were mentioned again and George went first. It was quite a relief for me and I believe George to finally get into the air. Jason worked with George and Todd spent time with me.

Todd does the takeoffs and landings (autos all the time) and I did most of the flying. He checked my flight skills to assess my needs and we started. I could nose in hover and tail inverted hover, 540 stalls and simple turns and small loops. He stressed flying a straight and level line into a manuver and same coming out. Once a manuver was started, complete it and do not freeze on the sticks. Todd had me try a moving tumble which was new for me. We succeded with that and went on to flips and some quick lessons on learning autos.

Jason flew a solo for George and I ,in between our lessons,to show us the capabilities of the fury. WOW! even Todd was oh'ing and aw'ing a little, and giving Jason some peer pressure, put in at the right times for a few laughs. Jason is quite amazing and the trip would have been worth it alone for me just to watch his demo.

I had to leave Todd, Jason and George at 10:00am to check out of my hotel and head home. Although I did not get the time flying I wanted,it was worth every dollar spent. Todd and Jason are good guys with great teaching skills and flying abilities. I will come back to the school in the near future and if your looking for a little professional help, go see Todd and Jason.

regards,
Paul A.

p.s. I am writing this right after my 6 1/2 hour drive back home, so forgive my grammatical mistakes and spelling. Hell i cnat' spell annyway.
